Writer of La Isla Bonita Spills the beans on whom wrote it

Bruce Gaitsch one of the three people credited for writing one of the best Spanlish tracks of all time spoke with a Madonna fansite DrownedMadonna to talk about "La Isla Bonita" and who wrote it.

below is a quote from the interview and the link to it.

DM: Tell us something about the process that leads to one of the biggest song of ever. Did it start to be a Spanglish song?

BG: It started out as a musical idea of Pat’s, no words, just music.

DM: Who had the idea of recreating a Latin sound?

BG: Pat Leonard.

DM: Who wrote the lyrics?

BG: Madonna

DM: Have the lyrics changed from the first composition or all the lines have been included in the final cut? What was the original work-in-progress title?

BG: All the same. There wasn’t one.

DM: So, who chose the title?

BG: Madonna.

DM: What was the main inspiration?

BG: I don’t know for Pat but my inspiration was Pat's track.

DM: What about San Pedro?

BG: There are quite a few of them it turns out. I've been to the one just south of LA and of course they think the song is about them.

DM: The song seems to transmit a feel of freedom, brotherhood and thoughtlessness. What was the intention?

BG: I don’t think there was an intention, I think Madonna writes from the heart not from an intention.

DM: How long did it take to finish the song?

BG: Pat and I did the music in minutes and she did the lyrics in China so I don't know how long she worked on them.

DM: "La Isla Bonita" also has Susan Leonard credited as a fourth writer. Why hasn't she been originally credited?

BG: Susan and Pat divorced and she got half of Pat’s music that he wrote while they were married.

No fuckin' shit. Some big exposé this is. Must have been a slow Maddy news day for you, huh?

My favorite exchange definitely had to be this one:

DM: The song seems to transmit a feel of freedom, brotherhood and thoughtlessness. What was the intention?

BG: I don’t think there was an intention, I think Madonna writes from the heart not from an intention.

DM: How far can your tongue reach up Madonna's ass?

BG: I usually can only get to the jejunum, but on good days I can reach the duodenum.

That ain't right! If this is supposed to expose Madonna as a fraud, mission failed! Madonna is mostly credited with only writing the lyrics of her songs, and I think they are usually very good, especailly in this case.

You don't have to apologize to me. I thought it was a great interview.
Just more points against the Madonna nay-sayers.

I love the end part though.

DM: What would you say about those who claim Madonna made a career by being controversial

BG: I'd say they're full of shit

Absolutely, I feel you on that. And I think it's important for people to read into what these people have to say instead of what Elton John and Boy George feel, even though they've never worked with her.

It's a topic about Madonna and her music. Apparently to your topics in the past it's more important to make topics of Britney coming out of a cab or Janet's ass...

No, baby, I was commenting how funny it is that they act like the info contained within the liner notes is some sort of amazing undiscovered treasure. What Madonna fan doesn't know that she writes most of her lyrics? SLOW. NEWS. DAY. lilgish and CinisterCee had the same idea, direct your aimless bitching towards them, thx!

A lot of people believe Madonna has no contribution to her work. This is for non-fans too.
And it's not slow news, go read the entire interview

I love this part wink

DM: It's rumoured that the song has been originally conceived for Michael Jackson. Is it true? Or is it just a gossip?

BG: The track was offered to him but luckily for us the id*ot didn’t want it.

DM: Why did you originally want to give "La Isla Bonita" to him?

BG: I didn't, Pat was working with Michael who was the biggest act in the world at the time and he thought it would be easy to get him involved. Turned it down..I was so happy..never liked the guy

Well, it would have had different lyrics, since it was Pat who wrote the music.

I did.
I was amazed, it was Prince that got him to where he is today.

It was funny when he said he did the prince tribute and Madonna actually thought it was Prince onstage with blonde hair lol

And he mentions the dvd too.
Supposedly it's what every Madonna fan is dreaming of
