Z CULT FAVORITE - Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars/Zinc Alloy And The Hidden Riders Of Tomorrow

If you take off the "The Rise And Fall", then of course you'll have "Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars". Great name for an album, huh? Marc Bolan obviously thought so, cuz two years after Bowie hit with that breakthrough album in 72, Marc hit in 74 with the Bowie bite album title "Zinc Alloy And The Hidden Riders Of Tomorrow". Although I like this album, it's not on par with Ziggy. Or is it Zinc? Hell, now I confused my own self. Anyway, Marc being the leader of the glam/glitter pack, I don't quite know what he was thinking of naming his album that. Obviously it was a nod to his chief competition in Bowie. Funny thing is I actually dig Marc's title better than Bowie's. Anyway, I always thought this interesting, so. I guess this is for the T-Rex and Bowie fans out there. If u have a thought about this, what would it be? Bowie fans, what did u think about Bolan's title? I'm a huge fan of both artists, so, just curious.

Marc Bolan was cool, but I'm gonna go with Ziggy. I love David Bowie.

But, what do u think about the titles of the albums. Them being SO similar? I would guess not many people have even heard Bolan's "Zinc Allow" album. Which is to bad, really. The album is good. Different. But good.

Yes they are very similar (lol)..Maybe it was just "friendly competition" back then. It was probably's Marc's little "tip of the hat" to Bowie. I only heard the LP once from my old drummer (who was a Glam fanatic) and I dug it.

Bowie's "Ziggy" is one of my faves of all time as well. But, what do u think of the two titles? Bolan naming his album that, being that he was the pioneer of glam/glitter.

falloff

My Dad works for a large bank and back in the 80's they had a customer try and open an account in the name Zinc Alloy.

Of course, they wouldn't believe her it was her real name until she dug out her documents - she had officially changed it as a result of this record!

Fucking nutcase. Bet she ended up in prison somewhere.....big grin

well, bolan came up with a bunch of wacky album titles. i think it got to a point where it was just kinda expected behavior from the guy. maybe the title of the ziggy album was a bit of a nod to bolan - there are certainly enough nods in the ziggy album's songs.

Just out of curiosity, what would your top 5 Bowie albums be?

It's a cool album. Not well known though. The most known aspect about the album is the title!
