Album of the Day: The Bar-Kays "Nightcruising"

Nightcruising
Hit And Run
Feels Like I'm Falling In Love
Freaky Behaviour
Touch Tone
Unforgettable Dream
Traffic Jammer
Backseat Driver

The bad ass Bar-Kays are my third all time favorite group and the "Nightcruising" album is one of my favorites. "Hit And Run" was the first single and the album version is really great when it breaks down towards the end. "Freaky Behavior" sounds very Rick James' "Super Freak" influenced. The title track is great also. My all time favorite Bar-Kays track "Traffic Jammer" is on this one. There's also two great slow jams, "Feels Like I'm Falling In Love", one of my favorites, and "Unforgettable Dream", which sounds very Commodores influenced.

Give it up y'all.

Yeah,I always thought that "Freaky Behavior" was inspired by Rick's song "Super Freak".In fact, many of the Bar-Kays' 80s songs were inspired by other songs...

"Freakshow On The Dancefloor" borrows alot of ideas from Midnight Star's "No Parking On The Dancefloor".

"Dirty Dancer" borrows it's synth riff from Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean".

"Dance,Party,Etc" is obviously inspired by Prince's "D.M.S.R."

Yeah, and the opening guitar on "Dance Your Body, Desara" is similar to the opening guitar on Prince's "When Doves Cry".

They also have a song from the 70s ("Too Hot To Stop",I think) that sounds alot like EW&F's "Shining Star"
