Beatles Covers That Work

What are the best covers of Beatles songs?

A few of mine are...

Earth Wind & Fire - Got To Get You Into My Life
Aerosmith - Come Together
Jeff Healy - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
The Breeders - Happiness Is A Warm Gun
David Bowie - Across the Universe
U2 - Helter Skelter

I know there are a ton more. Help me here. List some truly awful covers as well (William Shatner - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds ill)

i love Bette Midler's "My Life" over the original....but not the soundtrack versus...the film version...

and i thought, "while my guitar gently weeps" was a george harrison tune...who knew?

Norwegian Wood - Allan Holdsworth
We Can Work It Out - Stevie Wonder
Blackbird - Jaco Pastorius
In My Life - Laurence Juber

Just realized that all of these are instrumental versions except Stevie's.

*I love Stevie Wonder's and Chaka's version of We Can Work It Out.
*I also think Martha & the Vandellas' take on Something is exquisite!
*Our Lady Peace did a nice version of Tomorrow Never Knows on the soundtrack to The Craft

Bad remakes:
*The Four Tops doing Michelle barf
*Bananarama's remake of Help

Waiting for the MJ fanatics to proclaim his remake of Come Together as better than the original...

Rufus Wainwright's is good too!

Check out the "I Am Sam" soundtrack for covers by various artists!

Booker T & The MG's McLemore Ave. album is a good one. Practically a song by song reinterpretation of Abbey Road as Memphis soul instrumentals.
I enjoyed the cheeky album cover too, the MG's crossing the road outside Stax Studios mimicking the Beatles cover outside Abbey Rd Studios.

Billy Bragg (who I usually can't stand) did an excellent cover of She's Leaving Home.

The Feelies - Everybody's Got Something To Hide (Except For Me and My Monkey)

The Wedding Present - Getting Better

2. the Supremes – A Hard Day’s Night [2:19]
3. Emmylou Harris – For No One [3:40]
4. the Breeders – Happiness is a Warm Gun [2:42]

11. Dwight Yoakam – Things We Said Today [3:48]
12. Paul Westerberg – Nowhere Man [3:20]
13. the Mission U.K. – Tomorrow Never Knows [4:50]
14. Richie Havens – The Long and Winding Road [3:25]
15. P.M. Dawn – Norwegian Wood (this bird has flown) [3:09]
16. Steve Earle – I’m Looking Through You [2:25]
17. the Jam – And Your Bird Can Sing [1:52]
18. Elvis Presley – Something (live) [3:34]
19. Stevie Wonder – We Can Work it Out [3:14]

21. Rod Stewart – Get Back [4:22]
22. Nina Simone – Here Comes the Sun [3:42]
23. the Brothers Johnson – Come Together [4:11]

I Am NOT the Walrus
Vol. 2…

2. Aretha Franklin – Let it Be [3:28]
3. the Vines – I’m Only Sleeping [3:03]

9. Rosanne Cash – I Don’t Want to Spoil the Party [2:33]
10. Joe Cocker – With a Little Help From My Friends [5:02]
11. Emmylou Harris – Here, There and Everywhere [3:40]
12. Earth, Wind, & Fire – Got to Get You Into My Life [4:00]
13. Paul Weller – Don’t Let Me Down [4:05]
14. the Wallflowers – I’m Looking Through You [2:36]
15. George Benson – The Long and Winding Road [5:52]
16. Fats Domino – Lady Madonna [2:15]
17. Johnny Cash – In My Life [2:54]
18. the Jimi Hendrix Experience – Day Tripper [3:16]
19. Wilson Pickett – Hey Jude [4:02]
20. Allison Moorer – Here Comes the Sun [3:06]
21. Cassandra Wilson & Dianne Reeves – Come Together [4:38]

The thing I dig about Beatles covers is the variety of artists that tackle their songs and the different spins they put on them.
