Beck 'Guero' Special Edition...GET IT. NOW.

This is fabulous. This is what 'Special Edition' should be.

Two discs packaged in a hard-back book, with over fifty pages of photographs, lyrics, and some mighty nice illustrations by Marcel Dzama.

The album with a handful of bonus tracks - remixes and extra songs.

A DVD with the entire album accompanied by trippy images, with a photo gallery and at least two easter eggs I could find, including a funky, funky video for 'Black Tambourine', which thus far is my favorite song from 'Guero'.

Twenty bucks at Beast Buy. Well worth the money, if you even THINK you like Beck. Go get!!!

very much so. nod i don't usually go for the 'deluxe special edition' crap - even with new bowie albums, i buy the normal version unless i can find a good deal on the 'deluxe limited edition' ('heathen' and 'reality' both had really crummy 'deluxe' versions, i think) - but the GUERO deluxe edition is full of lots of goodies. if you can find it for $15 at beast buy, it is DEFINITELY worth it. even when it goes off sale, it's still worth the extra bucks. the album is kicking my butt, and the seven extra songs and remixes are really, REALLY nice.

Oh yeah. I never understood them? On hammers "too legit to quit" album u got MORE on the vinyl then on the cd or cassette. That was odd. Obvious answer is that they needed to fill up the vinyl with something (it was a double). Cd's can only be 80 mins.

Few artists exploited this at the time when vinyl was going out (early 90's?) by having really long tracks (Jacko, Bobby Brown) to fill up the cd.

That "Clap Hands" song is amazing, better in fact, than anything on the regular album.

I am only through "Broken Drum" and I already suspect this is the album of 2005.

all the bonus tracks and remixes are kicking my butt. i've been playing 'guero' over and over and over and over tonight at work. i love the feeling of not being able to get enough of a new album. chalk another one up for beck. nod

I will admit I've learned my first lesson about bad, bad downloading behavior. The leaked tracks weren't doing it for me, but everything does sound much better on the album and flows better. Still not my favorite Beck album, but definitely a good one. I vow to stay away from the leaked Sleater Kinney for at least today (day by day, right??) wink

oh, when i get those, it's always like, "ooh, deluxe packaging, i have to wrap this in saran wrap and keep it safe on a silk pillow in my hope chest". rolleyes it never occurs to me that it's just a damn cardboard sheath...though when they're especially arty, like the one for brian wilson's smIle album, i feel a little justified in putting on the collector geek kid gloves.

I kinda agree about the recent Bowie albums. Although it's nice to have anything extra, there isn't anything spectacular on either of them, apart from the updated "Conversation Piece". With all of his double disc reissues coming out, I almost wish he had waited until the albums were over with to beef up those 2nd discs somewhat.

I know this has nothing to do with this thread but here's what I would've included on each:

Heathen Disc Two:

1. Wood Jackson
2. When the Boys Come Marching Home
3. Safe (extended version)
4. Shadow Man
5. You've Got a Habit of Leaving
6. Baby Loves That Way
7. Conversation Piece
8. Sunday (Visconti Mix)
9. A Better Future (remix by Air)
10. Everyone Says "Hi" (Metro Mix)
11. I Took a Trip on a Gemeni Spaceship (Deepsky mix)
12. Nature Boy (Massive Attack Version)

and maybe some of the extended versions from the SACD version of the album.

Reality Disc Two:

1. Fly
2. Queen of All the Tarts
3. Rebel Rebel '03
4. Love Missile F1-11
5. Waterloo Sunset
6. Your Turn To Drive
7. Isn't It Evening (The Revolutionary)
8. Bring Me the Disco King (Loner Mix)
9. Saviour (w. Kirsteen Young)
10. New Killer Star (single edit)
11. Never Get Old (single edit)
12. a studio version of the Reality tour instrumental opening

and maybe the remainder of the Toy tracks that weren't included on Heathen singles.

Or something like that.

lol If it's an album cover I like, I just hack mine up and stick it on the wall. It's like a free mini poster.

No, the Moby one pretty much sucks. There was another remix called the "Visconti Mix" on the Canadian "I've Been Waiting For You" single. It's not bad. I can actually imagine it being the version used if it had been sent to radio or if there had been a video for that song.

you don't like the moby version? with the kate bush drum sample? awww. it's not the best remix in the world, but i really like it. my mom's nuts about it. i made her a CD-R with that remix on it, and she played that song over and over and over in her car until she ruined the disc. lol

I just really don't like Moby. But I've looked over that remix in favor of the Visconti one. Maybe I should go back and give it another chance.
