Wow, im a bit late on this, but heres a few comments on last nights grammies...

1.) Did anyone catch Anita Baker on the pre-grammy interviews? She looked like a train wreck. And you could clearly see her nipples through her mesh top, which was very disorienting.

2.) Generally speaking, wouldn't black eyed peas be considered a side dish?

3.) Lynrd Skynrd's performance was one of the best of the evening IMO. Though Tim McGraw sounded like a pansy up there trying to sing along with them. Them, the Billy Preston/Bonnie Rait performance, and Meslissa Etheridge were the highlights of the show for me.

4.) How about that guy that presented with Alison Krauss and the lead singer of Evanessence... I was cracking up when he mentioned "True artists like Allison Krauss".. and totally dogged that Evanessence girl. She looked pissed.

5.) Kanye West seriously needs to get over himself. That song sucked too. Did he borrow those wings from Victorias Secret? It was just tasteless how he kept acting like he was the best thing in that place, and snubbing all the other people who were winning instead of him.

6.) U2's performance was ok. The song is just boring IMO.

7.) Janet looked incredible, best dressed of the evening IMO. Sheryl Crows shark bite dress was the worst.

that was the most worst grammy shows i had ever seen. Thank God prince wasn't there to suffer through all the boring performances. The only ones worth watching was Alicia Keys and then with Jamie Foxx (and even though i love them both, why did they have to mess up that song "Georgia on my mind"?).

What was up Jacko..oops i mean Usher's performance straight from his video?

And what was the point of James brown? Hey i love james, and would have much more seen him perform a few minutes longer instead of seeing usher.

Best performance of the night for me was seeing Melissa doing a Janis Joplin cover and doing it well. Very gutsy to come out and not try to cover up the fact that she's bald from chemo. I think she may be my new hero.

Unlike most people that have commented on it, I actually liked the opening sequence of performances. I was glued to the tube.

Here are some comments from my 59-year old mother. Thought you all would enjoy the perspective!

I watched the Grammeys up until I fell asleep in my chair at the kitchen table. I wanted so to see Norah
Jones accept the Grammey. Was so delighted to hear that Ray Charles overswept the awards. I hope you
taped them so I can see this later.
Before I had to go to bed the only good music I seen up until that time was the clip they showed of Jerry Lee
Lewis, "The Killer." Other than that there was nothing that could compare, music now days just stinks.
Rap is so bad, you don't even have to have a good singing voice or even carry a tune at all.
Even when the Grammeys started, the song "Let's Get Started" wasn't even any good. The girl that first
started singing (whoever she was) I thought was good, then it went downhill from there.
I was still up when it was announced Prince had won.
Queen Lathitia looked very attractive in red and her black gowns, she sounded good but even still I wouldn't rush
out and purchase her work, it can't compare to Ray Charles or Jerry Lee Lewis not even close. Its sad to
think outstanding singers and musicians are such a rare commodity anymore. It certainly doesn't take talent
to be noticed only marketing, and nowdays people will buy anything.
Alicia Keys looked good in her white gown, she can sing but I didn't care for when she went into those long
dragged out renditions like Whitney Houston would do, it just over does it, takes away from the song not adds to it. But of course, I know you won't agree with my opinions, I grew up in a different era where people had to have
real talent. I also wanted to see the tribute given to Janis Joplin and couldn't stay awake.

as for J.Lo and Marc Anthony, there's an entire broadcast dedicated to that crap. Why do they have to waste 5 minutes on another show for such a bizarre, crap rendition of a really boring, uninspired song? If they had a seperate Grammys for country music, I'd be saying the same thing about that Gretchen Wilson chick.

Well, I couldn't watch it because they didn't broadcast it here in Holland (at least not to my knowledge). The only reason I would have watched anyway was because of Prince (who didn't show? ) and because Led Zeppelin received a Lifetime Achievement Award. I heard that they only got a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, but that's mostly because the Lifetime Achievement Awards were awared on Saturday night in a special ceremony separate from the Grammys.

Anyway, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones from Zeppelin were there last night as well in the front row. I thought this excerpt from Ross Halfin's online diary was pretty funny concerning some Grammy parties.....

"Back at the hotel. Spend the early hours of the morning in the Whiskey Bar with Billy Gibbons, who is very funny but rather the worse for wear - if you get my point. Kid Rock is also in there. He starts out ok then gets into a tirade of "fuck the Grammy's" etc, etc... It starts to become really boring and embarrassing.

Wake up tired again. I'm getting too old for night life. Go to the Biltmore Hotel in downtown LA. Led Zeppelin are getting a lifetime achievment award. Shoot Jimmy with Jerry Lee Lewis who is so southern I can't understand a word he says.

Jason Bonham is there (nice to see him, he's looking very healthy at the moment) and Dave Grohl who tells me John Paul Jones played on his album last night. Robert Plant didn't turn up, but did a very odd video message. Not really thanking anyone and announcing his "new" tour?

On the way out Jimmy met Ike Turner. He is a big man, like a body builder. He is 70 and looks great for his age. JP hadn't seen him since 1966 when he toured with him in Germany.

Back at the hotel for an hour then off to Clive Davis. Very A-list party at the Beverly Hills Hotel - Janet Jackson, Sharon Stone, Iman, Prince, Beyonce, Quincy Jones, Robin Williams, The Foo Fighters, Alicia Keyes, Mario, and a whole host of urban artists whose names I don't know. Arrive to a hail of paparazzi flash guns. As they say in English, the place is full of some stunning "Birds". I could marry most of them.

Sitting at our table is Paul Stanley, who tells me he is addicted to my website - he reads it in the middle of the night when he can't sleep (Gene Simmons probably would - if I paid him) and his girlfriend Erin. He tells JP he can't tell if I name drop him or Slash the most. The bright lighting is suddenly obscured by a figure nearly as big as the ballroom we're in. It's Steven Segal... I am not joking, he is physically HUGE. A bit like a Buddha - well he claims to be into Eastern Religion when he is not killing 5000 people with one hand. Much to our surprise he's at our table. Paul, Jimmy and I watch him consume all of the dessert - he puts his glasses on then consumes 2 tiers of pastries from giant plates... I mean everything. We're all nudging each other, trying not to laugh.

First on to perform is Fantasia - surprisingly good. A lot like Macy Gray. Chaka Khan gets up to do a duet. She is enormous. Paul looks round and says 'I think she's been to dinner with Steven Segal'... Jamie Foxx is good as well and so are Maroon 5 with Def Mo, whoever he is (I'll have to ask my son). Usher sits at our table. He looks very young - well, I suppose he is. Kelly Osbourne is at our table but when she sees what a bunch of geriatrics we are she swiftly disappears.

Clive Davis introduces Jimmy and JPJ to a standing ovation. We all start to flag at 12:30am and leave after Usher's performance. His voice is superb.

As we are leaving see Billy Gibbons in front of us shakily leaving the building with a very nice date. I am very jealous..."

In any event, a few things:

1. The Grammys are a boon to older artists and often a curse for younger artists.

2. If Kanye is upset about not getting enough love from the Grammys, he should remember that ATCQ, PE, BDP, De La, and many others whom he should bow down to got not one/100th of the love and money he's gotten, so he should siddown somewhere. He should also remember that true hip-hop artists appreciate but don't seek that kind of recognition. Not saying Kanye's not a true hip-hop artist, he's a good-but-not-yet-great one. I'm just saying that for all his preachifying, he needs to check himself, if those rumors are true.
