I'm interested to see how this pans out. Haven't we been promised this "rock" album before?

And, I'm a bit confused, I would neevr describe AL as having a "poppy, dance" feel. Dance, I guess, but not pop...

Yes,we heard these same rumors in 2002.They said she was working on a guitar-heavy rock album titled 'Rock Vanity'.So I guess we should take this rumor with a grain of salt.A rock album would be cool ONLY if it sounds edgy and adventurous.I'd hate for her to do a by-the-numbers rock album that sounds like Sheryl Crow.

MADONNA TWANGS HER G-STRING

MADONNA is re-inventing herself again---this time as the Queen of Rock.

The undisputed pop goddess has nearly finished her next album and it will have a heavy guitar sound.

I've got my hands on a secret blueprint for the new material which is out at the end of the year.I can reveal the poppy, dance feel of the last release 'American Life' has gone in favour of an edgy theme.Madonna will even play most of the big guitar riffs herself. Her inspiration has come from the rise of British guitar rock bands.A source close to Madge told me "Living in Britain, she has become a real fan of Franz Ferdinard and loves the kitshy sound of The Darkness".

"She is moving more in that direction---real sounds, like a real band"

"She is close to finishing the new album and there is a real hard rock feel to it"

"Madonna always keeps in touch with what is popular in the charts and has really been into the guitar-based rock bands of 2004.The new album is shaping up as one of her best ever"

She has enlisted help from several big name producers for the project.Swedish duo Bloodshy and Avant, who produced "Toxic" for Britney Spears, have been asked to collaborate with Madonna to write a song.Christian "Bloodshy" Karlsson and Pontus "Avant" Winnberg won a Grammy for "Toxic" just this week.Winnberg revealed Madonna called them in person to make sure they took the job---but their contribution will be less rocky than the other tracks planned for the album. He said "We're going to give Madonna's sound a real disco feel".

Madge is also working with French electro whizz Mirwais and Stuart Price---the main producer. The album will include a cover of "Imagine",which she showcased during last year's tour.Monte Pittman, her official guitarist and teacher, has co-written a rock song called "I Love New York" and she will record the riffs.

This could be good, especially if she mixes the sounds up a bit. I think my main beef with the last record was how that thin, art-school Mirwais sound was on EVERY track.

I agree.A rock album is fine, but mix up the sound a bit.Bring in a little techno, some hard dance beats, some catchy pop hooks, etc.I don't want a routine rock album that sounds like Sheryl Crow.

I don't buy this for one minute. First of all, it's way too early for any news about the album to be accurate. Second, it's from the British press..... biggrin

Yeah,I don't know what to make of that article. The only thing I know for sure is that she really has contacted Bloodshy and Avant. They spoke to the press about it,saying how thrilled they are to be working with Madonna. But who knows if the track will even make the final tracklist?

In any case,it's great to be getting all this "news".I'm just waiting for the fake tracklists to begin circulating lol

Fuckin' A! I loved how she added that "edgy-guitar" sound into her old hits on the last tour...Franz Ferdinand, the killers, I love them all, so if they're inspiring her sound, this should be a great record!

I hope this is true, because it makes me SO happy! I have wanted her to rock out on record for a long time. The sound of a band will get her back to her real roots (not dance-pop, people). Of course, this means more performances with guitar playing and haters who doubt the authenticity. I'll just call it NEVER satisfied.

DO you think that the Gilroy bros will be involved?

She wanted to do Disco when Camille B. wanted her to do rock. I think they are both part of her early days, and i think Dance is more her than rock. So why not combine the two.

Maybe the realy band sound is something like LAP where it was recored with a session band. Than some of the tracks get remixed for release.

we shall see, but what ever it is will have the Pop sound that she is the master of.

Excuse me, what fucking poppy, dance feel on "American Life". Bitch please! Mirwais. I got throw up! "Imagine" is a by the numbers "Ray Of Light" outake, (not a real one, but it feels like one, doesn't it). There is nothing there! Oh boy...I'm going to hold on to my copy of "Bedtime Stories" for dear life if this is true! Hell, I'll apperciate "American Life" more if this is true!

Although this is sort of off topic, I think "Music" is in fact the "real" Madonna. It's filled with some pretty heavy emoitional stuff ("I Deserve It", 'What It Feels Like...") but also some great dance jams ("Impressive Instant"...). It's a little bit indulgent but has a heart...just like her. I do like "American Life" but I think if Madonna would have stopped making albums at that point, I woudln't feel bad because it's a pretty damn good album. I just might revisit it.

I'd like a rock album from Madonna.
Something edgy like Burning Up... which was my favorite of the first album anyways.

Madonna has always stayed fresh with the times.. and right now rock is in...

I'd like to hear a little more of her guitar playing on the album, even though she's not great, it would at least make it a little more personal to her.

Monte, her guitar player in her band is also her teacher... I'm sure he's helped her out a lot learn the ins and outs.....

I want this album to be a little more lighter on the lyrics, though i still love to hear her personal tales as well. We want Madonna to show everyone that she still has what it takes to top the charts, and im sure madonna knows the formula for that....

American Life was commercially unfriendly, there wasn't much room for radio friendly songs, and she wussed out of the American Life video. Totally unMadonna and made those balls of hers shrink.

But i don't see it being released until next year, she seems too caught up in her documentry. Hopefully a new single by the end of the year

well, the documentary's done with filming (as the tour's been over for months). and i doubt she's sitting at an editing bay doing all the hard work herself to ready it for release. so i doubt that has very little to do with when the album comes out.

It's fun to think about what could have been.In 1980,she was a member of a rock band called Emmy.I wonder what kind of impact they would have had,if they had gotten signed to a major label? This band later evolved into The Breakfast Club, and their lead singer evolved into...Madonna,lol.

Steven Bray is the black guy in those pics. When Maddy decided to pursue a solo career,he's the one who produced her early demos. After she hit the big time, she still worked with him throughout the 80s.He released a couple of CDs containing the early demos that they recorded together in 1981/82 ('In The Beginning' and 'Pre-Madonna'....the same CDs,just different track sequence).

"Emmy" actually evolved into the Breakfast Club, and they had a few minor hits in the 80s.Not sure how she hooked up with Patrick Leonard.

Wow, looking at the pics, it looks like a Blondie wannabe group.

Im sure a rock band wouldn't have worked as well for Madonna. She needs her space and would never want to share the limelight with other members.

When recording an album, she likes to collaborate but when she takes the stage, the focus has to be her....

Patrick Leonnard was the Musical Director for the Jackson's Victory Tour. After coming off of that tour he was offered the job to be Madonna's Musical Director for the Virgin Tour from Freddy DeMan. At first he said no, because he didn't think Madonna was serious about being a musical artist. After Freddy arranged a meeting with him and Mads he agreed to do the tour.

While on tour they started writing the material that would become True Blue

Madonna met Dan Gilroy in 78 at an art gallery opening after she moved to NY. She moved in with him and his brother in a vacant Synagoue in Queens. They formed the first verison of The Breakfast Club. It was the Gilroy Bros doing gutiar and bass, another Chick doing vocals and Madonna on drums. The other girl left the band and than Mads and Dan took turns fronting the band.

When Madonna left to tour with Patrick Hernadez the band fell apart. After the 6 months in France Madonna came back to NY and rejoined the Breakfast Club. when the final fight broke out between Mads and Dan she left the band. She signed a devlopment deal with a woman named Camille Burbornte, i believe is the correct spelling, and she formed a band for her. Madonna wanted to have Stephan Bray fly out and be the drummer but Camile said no. Camille also had a strick no sleeping with Madonna policy for the band. Madonna slept with the drummer so he'd be fired and Camille would have no opition to fly Stephan out. Than the band was picking names and Madonna said just call the band Madonna, and Steven said no. Emmy was decided becasue it was one of Madonna's nick names. Camille had several agruements with Madonna over sound. Mads wanted to do dance and Camille thought she should stick with rock. Madonna and STephan worked on their demos that were dance while Camille had Madonna do rock. Than there was a falling out and Madonna left Camille after making out with her 16 year old nephew.

At this time Madonna reformed Emmys with the Gilroy Bros and Stephan Bray. After she got her record deal with the Dance Divison of Sire she left the band. Later the Emmys reformed as the Breakfast Club. than got a deal a few years after Madonna left.

Maripol is a designer who owned a boutique in the West Village.

she designed clothes for Mick Jagger and was her stylist slash designer for the Madonna-LAV years. right before Mary Steward took over. Maripol got upset with Madonna when she made her first Re-Invention for Live to Tell
