db: a reality tour dvd what a great dvd! nothing to complain about...absolutely perfect. who cares if white light/white heat is mssing from the tracklisting? there is so much going on in this dvd. i find that its usually hard to capture the spirit of a live show on camera but this dvd tries its best and, for the most part, succeeds astonishlingly well. no quick, jerky camera movements. when there is creative editing it does not take away from what's happening at the show. this is definitely a live recording that prince could take a cue from.
my personal highlights are the performances of under pressure, life on mars and loving the alien but the whole show is fantastic! i'm kind of glad breaking glass was not on the setlist the night of recording. i'd hate to see what i missed out on in chicago! its probably best left unknown, lol. i'm waiting for anxiety's review of this dvd...or gangstafam's review...there are quite a few bowie fans here that i'd be interested in reading their thoughts on the dvd. until then, you'll have to take my word for it: the dvd rocks! If Amazon (UK) ever send me my copy, I'd be glad
to post a review here. I bought the 'Low/Heroes' box-set 2 weeks ago and was blown away.

Another highlight is 'The Motel', IMO. And BTW, Bowie's just cool to watch! That's a rock star.

Those were definitely highlights both times I saw him on this tour. Under Pressure was so thrilling and Life On Mars showcased his voice as well as anything I've heard. Can't wait to finally see it.

i have copies of this damn dvd falling out of my ass.
i ordered one earlier this week, then it seemed like there was a problem with my order getting processed, so i bought one at best buy for ten bucks, then i ordered one for my mom from amazon.com, then my original order went through and now i'm getting another copy in the damn mail. SHEESH! that said, i can't think of a better DVD to be deluged by. i'm loving it. it's a perfect representation of what it felt like at the shows i saw - just an excellent memento of the reality tour. i'm not a big fan of all the artsy editing and effects, but it's nowhere near as bad as some of the stuff on the prince aladdin dvd (the overall quality of the bowie dvd beats that disc with a stick, but that's beside the point). i really wished that the intro cartoon would have been played in full screen though, instead of as the background of an audience shot. i loved the animations on that tour! there's a section of the DVD that starts with "fantastic voyage" and ends with, i dunno, "loving the alien" or something like that...every single damn song kicks my butt, from the choice of songs to the order to the way they're performed. and a 2 1/2 hour concert DVD? aw yeah.

I went to one of the shows on the Reality Tour a year ago, but unfortunately my grandfather died a few days earlier and I can't seem to remember that much from the show - perhaps because of the emotional circumstances at the time.
What's the setlist for the songs performed on the DVD? (I can already picture in my mind somebody posting www.google.com for an answer though...) [Edited 10/23/04 3:26am]

just got my copy 2day. Paid 20$ for it but it was definitly worth it. The live versions ofthe reality album (too bad 'days' wasn't in the setlist) are in most cases better than the studio versions, so I'm beginning to appreciate the album a lot better. the heathen tracks are superb and the rendition of heroes completely does it...hope he'll release a live cd to. [Edited 10/23/04 15:49pm] It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

There are a lot of cuts that I've never seen featured on any setlist before ("Be My Wife", "Sister Midnight"). I hope they did something to that terrible set (as in "staging") they used to throw their gigs at least at the first half of the tour. It wasn't, let's just say, the best-looking one I've seen so far.

I bought my copy this weekend (18 euro's) and I love it.
The editing is not to MTV-ish and the setlist is amazing. The 5.1 sound makes you feel like you are there. It's just a shame that there are no extras on the disc. WHAT IF THERE IS NO TOMORROW? THERE WASN'T ONE TODAY!

It's just a shame that there are no extras on the disc. since bowie switched up the set list so much it would have been a cool idea to throw in a bonus disc or extras of random songs that weren't performed each night. when i saw that white light/white heat and breaking glass were not on the tracklist i was just a tiny bit disappointed (but that turned into gratitude when i thought about how salty i was that the one night he did breaking glass in chicago was the one night i didn't go). the collection is great and i've no complaints...but an extra few tracks from random shows would have been awesome! Holy fuckin' shit Sassy! I cannot believe this dvd.
This captures the feeling of being at that show so well. Easily one of the best live documents I've seen and the best Bowie show committed to tape. That's saying a lot too, cuz he's got some great ones. There are so many special moments on here: Heathen (The Rays), Sunday, Five Years, Life On Mars?, Bring Me The Disco King, The Motel, Fantastic Voyage, Be My Wife, Sister Midnight, etc. Hell, pretty much the entire thing. It's quite long, but I never felt it dragged. For some reason the groupings of songs keeps it fresh and moving. And I really like the way it was edited together. It kinda reminds me of the The Cure's 'Trilogy' show actually. Similar excitement and they both capture the essence of what they can do live. Bowie's voice was stellar through the whole show. And Under Pressure had me sobbing. For some reason, whenever I see Gail Ann Dorsey and him lay into that song, I can't contain myself. The way she sings and the obvious love they have for eachother just blows me away. Same for when they walk off stage with his hand on her shoulder during "Heathen". Chills. I plan on watching this A LOT. And I agree with you Sassy. A bonus feature with songs that didn't make it would've been killer. Not that it feels like anything's missing. It's perfect as is. But I would've loved to see things he played less often like Station To Station, Starman, Sound and Vision, New Career, Diamond Dogs, Panic In Detroit, Breaking Glass, etc. No complaints though. Five stars for sure.

He played "Sound And Vision" and "New Career In A New Town" during the tour as well? Whoah. And I thought the inclusion of "Modern Love" and "Loving The Alien" was a radical one. [Edited 10/26/04 5:44am]

Yep, he played Sound and Vision in Hannover, Germany and I was there! Would love to have seen STS (shit, I would have peed all over myself!) and Diamond Dogs. And how The Supermen sounds in 2004.

i'd put this DVD on the "must have" short list of bowie stuff, especially for folks who are new to his music. he does a little bit of something from every part of his career in this concert, and his voice and energy are top notch throughout. i've seen his stage presence be more powerful in other performances, but he's just so darn likeable throughout this show, it doesn't matter that he's not all "thin white duke" to the nth degree.

finally got it and watched it last night... OMG. One of the best rock DVDs ever created. Bowie's voice just blows me away.... it's as good as it's ever been. Great set list, great performances.... Sterling Campbell is just simply amazing, especially on Battle for Britain. What a great show.
