OMAHA NATIVE LALOMIE WASHBURN

Lalomie Washburn was a talented performer and songwriter and had the nickname 'Lomie'. She was signed to the Parachute label in 1977, where she released her first album, entitled 'My Music Is Hot'. For the next 20 years she wrote for and collaborated with several major soul acts including Rufus, Stevie Wonder, Paulinho Da Costa and Greg Phillinganes . Lalomie was also the featured vocalist with the group Hi Voltage during the Eighties. She was a featured vocalist on Quincy Jones's album 'The Dude' and appeared on Bridgette McWilliams' album 'Too Much Woman'. In 1992 she released several 12" single, on the Conscious Records imprint, with 'Try My Love' being particularly popular in the U.K. In 1994, she was a featured vocalist on Misty Oldland's album 'Supernatural'. In 1997, she released a second solo, self titled, album for the European Soulciety label. She also worked with Buddy Miles and the singer D.J. Rogers . Lalomie Washburn died on the 18th of September 2004. 'Lomie' had been living in the Los Angeles County.

Lalomie Washburn, a fine singer and writer I had the pleasure of working with, passed away from liver cancer last Saturday. She was a really soulful singer with roots firmly planted in the old school.

Being friends with Chaka Kahn, a few of her tunes were recorded by Rufus
I'm A Woman (I'm A Backbone) appeared on Rufusized.
(this tune was also cover by Joi on Star Kitty's Revenge)
At Midnight (co-written with Tony Maiden) originally appeared on Ask Rufus.
The Message in the Middle of the Bottom is on Chaka.
Pass It On (A Sure Thing), also co-written with Tony Maiden is on Dance Classics of Chaka Kahn.
She also co-wrote Your Smile and Better Together.

Too Much Woman (co-written with Steve Harvey and Bobby Watson) is on the Brigette McWilliams release of the same name.
It's Gonna Get Better was featured on Aretha Franklin's La Diva.
Music Use It was written and performed by Lomie on Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz.
You Don't Have a Kind Word to Say (co-written with Buddy Miles) is on Buddy's More Miles Per Gallon CD.

According to reports, the night after Lomie passed Chaka Kahn performed an emotional version of I'm A Woman at the Monterey Jazz Festival as a tribute to her lost friend.

Though, I've never heard of her, from what you've described this is a black day in music. I'll have to investigate. I do have all of the Mark Farina Mushroom Jazz releases, I immediately through on that track that she's on after reading this thread. Yeah, very soulful!!! Damn, Damn, Damn!!!
