I never could either. He has a nice little six-pack going there, but he seems like a poor knock-off of Micheal Jackson. But, I do like his new song, Confessions Part II, especially the part in the video where the Chili impresonator back hands his ass. Take that you damn cheater.

i never know when it's an usher song - someone always has to point it out to me - then the next time i hear it, i'm all "who's this?" i don't get why people are so crazy about him, he seems to be a really good performer but his music lacks any kind of style or substance that i can hear. shrug

No, I can't explain it. He has abs and is marketable, maybe? Whatever it is, it certainly ain't the music.

Usher is for the younger folks. You're not supposed to get it. The only real similarities between he and MJ is that sorry choreographed dancing in their videos. MJ's songs go a little deeper and he actually wrote many of them. Justin Timberlake is a better comparison.

Usher is a poor excuse for an artist in my opinion. How can you possibly respect someone who has the audacity to make an entire album about cheating on ur girlfriend? And to top it off, make videos further exploiting the relationship and breakup. He sucks!

And he looks like a glo-worm

Hmmm let me take a stab at it:

Usher is probably one of the more talented dancers in pop music. When a salon.com writer tried to explain Aaliyah's appeal she pointed out that like Madonna, she can move. She said they can convey a lot through movement and since they were video stars it was an important ingredient to their appeal. So Usher (and Justin) fall into this catagory for one. What does this have to do with music? I'll let you answer that.

As for the music well he's a pretty strong pop artist in that his lead-off singles are strong hits. Every one of his albums has one. In this market if you have a strong lead-off single it can help out a lot. Of course he has the hottest producers of the moment, just like Justin and Brandy. He's not ugly. He has that annoying six-pack that's gonna haunt him one day and for the rest of his career. So throw it all in a bowl, mix, add water and presto. Usher!

agree totally with the sentiment .... AND ... i almost started this exact thread a couple of weeks ago .... lol ...

that song that was number one --- what was it ... "yeah" .... that was catchy and i would hear it ALL THE TIME .... got really sick of it .... but again .... its catchy and --- i could see it in a club bein played alot .... etc ...but i honestly have to say --- i cannot name any other USHER SONG ... even tho i am sure there are lots that i have heard ....

when i did first hear that song --- it does remind me alot of MJ ...

but his newer ones ... burn or whatever ... are typical ... and boring ...

but he has been around for a while ... i remember back in 97-98 some white gals in the office gettin into him !!!?

cool

He had a few good singles on his last albums, but no one can tell me why this new album appears to be so "hot" and such a good seller.

Unless he has some built-in Timberlake audience, but even then, someone here should be able to explain why Usher is hot NOW.

Think the record company is doin somethin funny with the charts?

I feel the same way you do on that. I thought Usher was ok at best before Confessions came out and when he kept on exploitiing his relationship with Chili, he started to lose me on that. I've heard a couple of songs on the new CD and it sounds no different than his other songs from the past. And to answer the question of why he's so hot right now, I really can't tell you either. In fact I had a discussion about this with a friend of mine and we wondered it too.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I forgot about the tabloid factor. That's a hot thing now. Justin did it, Britney kinda did it. Brandy's doing it. I personally think it's a dumb way to sell records but....

The reason why this album is selling better than anything else he's done is for the simple fact that he now has some sort of "street cred" for cheating on Chili. Usher has been around for a while now, but has never really been the hottest of the hot. You see, he had to cheat on his GF to get an audience sad But to be honest, I don't believe that he cheated, then decided to write about it. I would go as far to say that he knew he could not drop another BORING album, like all the other Usher albums, so he had to do something that would make him interesting. No one would pay him any attention if he made this cd, but he didn't cheat, right?

That glo-worm is a disgrace to true artists who really have something to say

well, he ain't my cup of coffee, but he's a great dancer and has a great voice.

so he mimics dance styles - well, big deal. he's a talented guy.

his songs bore me to tears, though. except 'u got it bad', or whatever it was called. i dig that tune. smile

Well I just turned 40 (Damn I hate saying that) and I dig most of Ushers album. And I'm a cat who doesn't dig much in the way of R&B nowdays. It's not really a great album per say, but with everything else out there, good seems great. I just think a lof of this "usher-hate" is part of the backlash that comes when anyone has this much success.

True, but in this case it's "has this much success with completely mediocre music." I wouldn't care if he actually had a good album on his hands.

But see where we differ is, I think it is a good album. Just not great. But in today's R&B world, people go crazy if u give them even a little taste of something worth while
