Amazon already shipping the 3 DVDs...

My order shipped yesterday... who else? With any luck these will be blasting in my apartment by Saturday smile

Has it really been twenty years!? Yes, kids, that guy with the once unpronounceable symbol for a moniker is now old enough to be your father, or even grandfather. But his name is still Prince, and he is funky! And to prove it, Warner Home Video will release the two-disc Purple Rain: 20th Anniversary Edition on August 24th.

Remastered at last in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, extras include a new audio commentary with director Albert Magnoli, producer Robert Cavallo and cinematographer Donald E. Thorin, three new featurettes (on the Minneapolis music scene and Prince's career prior to Purple Rain, a second on the making of the movie, and a third on Prince's fans, his legacy and impact on pop culture), no less than seven music videos (four from Prince, two from the Time and even the immortal "Sex Shooter" from Apollonia 6), 1984 MTV premiere party footage, and theatrical trailers for all three of Prince's Warner movies. Retail will be $26.95, but it can be pre-ordered now here for only $18.89.

And if you just can't get enough of His Royal Shortness, Warner will also release two other Prince flicks, Under the Cherry Moon and the Purple Rain "sequel" Graffiti Bridge, on the 24th. Each is remastered in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, and extras include four music videos on each plus theatrical trailers. Retail? $19.95 a pop, but are listed here and here for only $13.99 each. Pick up 2 or more of the above titles and get free shipping.

The videos are a very nice touch. The fan thing might be interesting too. I'm pumped for the surround sound and widescreen.

yeah, i'm most excited about the 5.1 and 16x9 too... the rest is just frosting... without the 5.1/16x9, i'd probably wait until a future release.

I suppose... but to be MY grandfather (and be the coolest granddad ever!) , his son/daughter would have had to give birth to me when he was 38, and dammit, that's too young to be a grandfather!

Warner has confirmed a 2-disc upgrade will be released in early 2005, to coincide with Batman Begins nxt summer. I want my Batdance video!

hopefully the can get jack for the commentary track smile i never bought the original... was waiting for a special edition.

you're right... i wouldn't buy them. i already have them on laserdisc and haven't watched either in years... since when i had them on vhs. "under the cherry moon" is alright, but "graffiti bridge"? probably the worst movie of all time. it's like watching a trainwreck. but at least it will have the videos for jerk out and thieves in the temple...

The cool thing is, now that its on DVD, you can skip through that ridiculous "story" and instead watch it like its a collection of videos!

According to this web site, we'll be treated to featurettes with names like "Riffs, Ruffles and a Revolution - the Impact and Importance of Purple Rain", "Purple Rain: Backstage Pass" and "MTV Premiere Party".

i've read purple as one of the videos in sone listings, i'd imagine it would be the award performance

I have a question y'all. I have heard that there was an alternate version of Purple Rain that showed in Canada. There were some extra scenes like the infamous barn scene in the When Doves Cry video as well as Prince fighting Jellybean (shown on trailer) and also a part where Morris is sneaking around Prince's house (Let's Go Crazy video, I think). A couple of people told me that this version had an X rating because of some explicit sex scenes. Has anyone seen this???? Does this version really exist or is this just a myth.

Same here. I'm a HUGE batman fan It was the 1989 batman movie that gave me my 1st listen to prince music.

The 2 disc set of batman should have all the prince/batman music videos.

Does anyone know what the 1984 MTV premiere footage is? I didn't have MTV yet back then ..... was there live performance like the UTCM premiere? (And THAT should go on the UTCM DVD)

If I remember I think MTV did something on it - I know for sure they showed "When Doves Cry" video -- I wanted to stay home and watch it , but that night I was graduating from high school. So i was a liitle upset that I didn't get to see the video or party that night.

i have it on tape...it's pretty much all the celebs getting out of their limos and Mark Goodman(MTV vj at the time) hosting the party...and appolonia's really nice dress....the reason i have it on tape is because stevie nicks and lindsey buckingham attended the event biggrin
