Has any1 else apart from me got the 12" Prince/Maxwell Duet/Collaboration?

Hey Guys,

Just wanted 2 know if eye was the only fam here who has the Rare 12" release of the only known Prince & Maxwell collaboration (it has an alternate mix of Sexy Dancer on the B side).

I found it in a Dance Specialist shop 5 years ago. Just wandered in and asked if they had any Prince stuff (not expecting much of a response) and the owner overhears and pops out to tell me he had a mega rare personal copy of a collaboration/duet between Prince and Maxwell - and I could have it 4 £30.....

Now, has any1 else heard it, or do any of u guys have it, and is it real....I mean, it sure sounds it 2 me!

I can't remember the name of the track (I'll check when I get home 2nite)...but it's WICKED!

Peace

Nope I never knew about them working together. I have to admit I am intrigued by the thought of this music you possess. Maybe you can post a little audio sample of it if the Mods don't mind that is. I am sure that it sounds awesome though.

Sounds you got stiffed with a DJ/fan remix 12"...
I don't think a Prince/Maxwell colab could ever be in the works since Prince is no Maxwell fan...

Really ?? Could you provide me with more info about that, please? As far as I remember Prince was spotted at two Maxwell concerts in the late nineties, I think one show was in Paris (?).
I´m very interested to know where you got your information from since I really like Maxwell´s music, especially when it´s backed up by the Sade band ( Stuart Matthewman , guitarist ans saxophone player )...they ( the Sade band, as Sweetback) and Maxwell also did a song called Softly, Softly....
And a record store owner in London showed me the video for Get To Know Ya before it was officially released and he told me the Now album got delayed because it sounded too much like a Prince album, i.e the sound and style were to Prince-like.
Is there some Prince/Maxwell connection ??
I think Maxwell likes Prince, he once said he was a bit nervous because P was in the audience.

I think Maxwell likes Prince, he once said he was a bit nervous because P was in the audience.

At the second Celebration he was asked if he liked some neosoul acts and current hiphop stuff(D'angelo, The Roots, Musiq, Maxwell, Missy Elliot, Timbaland etc.) and his response to the Maxwell and Timbaland question was that he wasn't all that impressed by them and their sound...

Maybe Prince is a little jealous of Maxwell's vocal abilities? I think Maxwell is a better/more soulful singer than Prince is.

nod yeah i have all of maxwell's stuff and at one point i was definitely diggin him, but most people i know don't like him they say he whines too much. he has definitely got a sound that either you feel it or you don't and I wouldn't be surprised if Prince wasn't feelin it.

It's possible. He is a very good singer. I was listening to Embrya the other day and thinking about how underappreciated that album is.

I hear you but I have always taken some of what Prince says about other artists with a grain of salt. I mean you know how hard it was for him to even admit to influences in past years. I look at this the same way. I mean for reasons which escape me people love comparing Andre 3000 with Prince. Now imagine if your Prince you have to be sitting there thinking "How many instruments does this guy play? How many genre's of music can he deftly delve in and out of?" So I think that is why when people ask him who he listens too he says the whole I create my own new music thing. Plus it adds to his legend to make statements like that. I mean one thing Musicology has shown everyone is that Prince can work the media.

Ok Guys....back 2 the original subject of this thread....

I listened 2 it last nite, and it's definately Prince layered vocals 2gether with Maxwell. If it's a Fan Mix then I don't know how they got him 2 sing these lyrics.

There's also no artwork 2 the 12", and it's a DJ Mix of some description. B side is a DJ mix of Sexy Dancer. The 12" only has a stamp on the label saying PRINCE/MAXWELL.

Listening 2 the lyrics the title of the song sounds like:

There's No One Quite Like ???...or something 2 that effect.

Sample lyrics....

If I Could Do it over
If I ??Could Do It Again
(Can't work this line out)
But there's no one quite like, no one quite like (???? not sure)

Has some layered Prince Sounding guitar licks after this.

Any1 know this song???

How can I transfer from Vinyl to my PC??? Then I'll get it posted up.

Peace

This song is called No One from Maxwell's 2001 album "Now". This remix is a white label DJ Mix with a DJ remix of Sexy Dancer on the flip. I can't remember the DJ off the top of my head and i want to think it was Jay Denes. But, I got one of these off of ebay in 2002. Prince had absolutely no involvement in the Maxwell recording.

THAT'S THE ONE!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

Wow! Prince had no involvment in the track.....so who's that singing with Maxwell, or is that Maxwell being layered over the top in a more falsetto voice???

Weird.

Great that U cleared it up 4 me.

Shame it wasn't Prince, although it DAMN SURE SOUNDS LIKE HIM!! mad mad
