The Industry has a personal problem with PRINCE!

Its no longer about the MUSIC...
MUSICOLOGY has ranked 3rd place on the TOP 200 Pop Albums Charts for 3WEEKS NOW!
and Yet MTV, Doesn't show his video anymore!!!

The Djs in Night Clubs and on Radio told me for the past few years...they wouldn't play PRINCE, because he wasn't in the Top 40 and he's Indie!

Well...HELLO!!! He signed with Sony/Columbia...he's 3rd on the charts on the TOP 200 ALBUMS CHART!

He has the most successful tour around this year!
He's on the cover of ROLLING STONE!!!
Great Reviews from everyone!!!

Why aren't you playing his music now???
No reason...personally I believe its because they literally HATE PRINCE!
His stance against Mediocracy and Independency has definitely turned the stomachs of the Industry and now that he's got them in the palm of his hands, ppl aren't trying to help contribute to his success!!!

WHY?
Mtv, Vh1 and BET, all spoke highly of PRINCE and stated they were behind him 100% to promote MUSICOLOGY...Now BET has started to add more play to the list for MUSICOLOGY video...the only way you can catch it on VH1 is by watching the top 20 countdown and MTV, well, no more PRINCE, Perhaps ONCE A DAY if that!

It surely sounds like a personal issue to me...People Love Prince and now The big wigs can't handle it!

Ur Thoughts!

This will probably always be the case because he thankfully doesn't play by the rules. It seems as though only so-called "artists" who kiss the asses of the industry execs are the ones who are treated with respect and who's music will be showcast. It's about the bottom line; what's marketable...talent or no talent. If you can make money, they'll love you for it. But remember, every so-called "artist" has their day, then we never hear from them again. Prince has been quite lucky in that he'll have longevity and will have left an indelible and positive print on the music industry...that is whether they like or accept him or not! They can't take it away from him. If nothing else, even the up and coming black artists are learning from him and are pursuing ownership of their music. Jay-Z and P Diddy come to mind as artists/producers who have tried to retain ownership of their work. They both thank Prince in their efforts.

I've seen Musicology on MTV once this week and it was the end of the video. It's strange to see that there's little play on him but I still love seeing him as high as he is on the charts. It's incredible. And the music industry can kiss all of our asses.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Well, I can't remember the last time I saw ANY videos on MTV. I did see Musicology on HBO the other night, in-between movies. That was kinda cool.

Well, I wish THE Gay 90's in Minneapolis would play his Stuff. They were like WE Have No PRINCE last time I was there.

I've noticed its not being played as much as before but I still see it a lot! Especially on VH1! I flip through all of the video channels in the morning while I'm getting ready for work & I see Musicology 2-3 times a day!

It never was about the music.

Who really cares if it's placed in a chart, played on radio by a station or a DJ, or the video airs on some television show?

If you've bought the 'Musicology' album you can listen to it at home without turning on the radio, and you can watch the video at home without turning on MTV etc...

You can't stand around and say "Fuck MTV", "Fuck Rolling Stone" and 'Fuck the charts", then suddenly do a 180 when they recognize Prince again.

Those things either have merit or they don't. Featuring Prince again says more about their marriage to the industry and his recent pairing with SONY than it does about his art. Conversely, just because they ignore some of his music or it sells less than Musicology, doen't mean it's any worse.

Rolling Stone is STILL a shit-sorry excuse for a "music" magazine, MTV is STILL 95% garbage, and the Billboard charts are STILL as sorry a measure of artistic merit as they ever were, whether Prince is #3 or not.

Also, Prince has (or had) a personal problem with "the industry" as well. No surprise they seem to have a bit of a problem with him.

A lot of artists sell records without MTV airplay.

Prince's relationship with the industry has always been love-hate.

In order for an artist to have their videos played on MTV, they must fit into one of the following catagories:

1. Be a rapper.

2. Be a rocker.

3. Be a pop-tart.

And, Prince is neither. But as long as we, his fans are here...his music will sell regardless smile

Exactly...Norah Jones' videos aren't being played on MTV and she is still selling.
