Why isn't Prince playing his political songs live?

With all that's going on in the world today, Prince was actually ahead of his time with songs like "Partyup" "1999" "America" and "Sign O the Times" I wish he would play all these now that they really do mean more than ever.

The lyrics to "1999" have never meant more to me.. "Everybody's got a bomb, we could all die anyday, ...tonight I'm gonna Party like it's 1999" To me this means let's party like it was 1999 before September 11, 2001 when our lives changed forever.

I thik this should be the concert closer with "Purple Rain" thro in "america" and "Partyup" and Princ would be making quite a statement.

Songs about love, sex, and God are almost universal . . . meaning, there's not a huge "risk" in performing those songs live . . .

Politics, though . . . now that's a touchy subject.

question

Yea I know, but these songs don't make judgements or pick sides, (except for Partyup) but Prince still makes a statement without really taking sides or picking fights with anyone.

I'm wondering if/when he's going to work "Dear Mr. Man" & "Cinnamon Girl" into the set list. They're both timely songs (lyrically) & it IS the 'Musicology' tour, right?

I don't think he's trying to go there with the socio-political stuff like he was on the last tour. I think it's all about the party this time around. It'll be interesting to see what the performance of "Dear Mr. Man" was like on the record release special..

if you check the past set list i believe he has been doing quite a bit of SOTT and he's done Mr. Man during the acoustic set on a couple of shows. party up is not something the mainstream audience is going to know i don't think but America would definately be cool i agree.

Despite what we like to believe, not everyone in the world agrees with our personal political beliefs. The USA is split just about in the middle on most political issues. I doubt the man wants to risk losing half of his audience at a time when he's part of the biggest marketing campaign of his life.

Prince played Sign in Hawaii and Dear Mr. Man in Vegas. I can't see Prince doing Party Up anymore...His political views have changed over the years and he has learned to better express himself with his lyrics...I think Everlasting Now which he still performs is as political as anything else he's done. I also think that he did a "snippet" of America at one of the Vegas shows.
