it's like watching election results coming in smile

Not sure how they get results already when the sales run through the end of the day. I guess stores report twice?

still number 1, 1.12% in. Supposed to be a battle between Prince, Winans, and Usher for the top 3

Dayum! Two albums in the Top 20 for Prince? And look at that Hanson album. I'm really liking how this chart's shaping up.

24.15% in now, the numbers look like:

1 - Winans - 79,037
2 - Prince - 71,261
3 - Usher - 55,106

An interesting observation. If the numbers are representative of how it's going to end up, usher's numbers are right on track for the 250k that was estimated wednesday. Prince is on track for 295k, about double the original estimates.

eyepop

somehow this article disagrees, though

http://www.hitsdailydoubl...ws05065m01

Projects usher at 250k and forecasts a #1. I don't know what data they're looking at - Prince isn't even in the discussion yet already shows more reported sales than the ones they are talking about for 4th and 5th with 24% reporting.

yes, that is very very odd that the discussion of Prince doesnt come up in the Top 5 when sales 1/3 of the way talled are past those of the albums they sey are battling for 4th and 5th ??? A blatant oversight or else they are banning him from the chart for giving away copies at concerts mad

The actual full chart will be online Thursday, but Billboard does an article on the charts, covering debuts and big changes, on Wednesday afternoon. Just check out Billboard's main page Wednesday around 11am eastern time.

Well, at nearly 38%, Prince is number two with 99,755 copies sold. Mario Winans is no.1 with 114,046 sold. Since hitsdailydouble tracks over-the-counter sales, I guess they aren't factoring in the 17,000 copies from the Columbia show. If the numbers stay this tight, Prince might just pull through with a chart-topping album once SoundScan includes concert copies. Hmmm.....

49.01% now, prince is down to #3. However, it's clear he'll be in the top 3, and the total sold should be well over 200k.

1 - Mario Winans - 155,821
2 - Usher - 125,933
3 - Prince - 123,302

anyone know how they factor in sales from today? You'd think at least 5% of the weeks total would be sold today.

It does seem like a top 3 debut is guaranteed. For all the other chart freaks out there, this will be Prince's highest debuting album EVER. Diamonds & Pearls entered at no.5, and then climbed to it's peak of no.3 the next week, and the prince album entered and peaked at no.5. I think this will also be his best single-week sales ever in the Soundscan (1991-present) era. In the pre-Sounscan era, when albums typically debuted lower and moved up, Purple Rain debuted at no.11 and Around The World In A Day entered at no.14. If Soundscan had been around then, I think it's safe to say both would easily have entered at no.1.

Musicology will be Prince's 11th top ten album, and his first since The Gold experience peaked at no.6 in 1995. If it should debut and peak at no.2, it will be his first album ever to peak at no.2 on the pop album charts.

On the R&B albums side, I imagine Prince will enter at no.3 behind Mario and Usher. It will be his first top ten there since Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic entered at no.9 back in '99.

Hitsdailydouble now forecasts:

1. Usher
2. Mario Winans
3. Prince

This is very very exciting biggrin .

PS: I think Prince will end up at No.2. Hitsdailydouble figures are usually off by 5-10 thousand and I think he'll pull ahead of Usher.

does any1 know if the final figures will include sales of the album from the Musicology Download Store? I figure it won't as these are not officially sales from the past week.....as most of the members would have purchased the album when it first came out.

well, the sales are now up to 67.81% reported, and usher just got a huge block of sales added - enough to challenge for #1. What would cause one artist to dominate a segment of the overall sales like that? Prince is still on track for over 200k in sales, though.
