They didn't care about showing kindness...they just want to get into Heaven. But...obviously, you don't sound like that kind of person, which is cool. And all of the JWs on here --- first of all, I think it would be quite interesting to find out how many of you were JW before Prince was. I also would LOVE to hear how a religion that would rather let someone die unnecesarily than let them have a blood transfusion is somehow "enlightening." As for the person who said that people who were once JWs were either forced out due to "wrongdoing" or left of their own will....well, no motherfucking shit. That's a pretty fucking dense statement right there. Can you please give examples of some of the offenses that might cause one to be kicked out? The Christian Congregation must be kept clean, therefore there has to be some rules, just like any other faith. If people willfully don't want to follow those rules, that's on them. You can't criticize a school for suspending a kid who doesn't follow the rules. And the word "shun" is kinda harsh . A person who is disfellowshipped has displayed an attitude that they no longer want to be part of the congregation. If that attitude changes, they are welcomed back with open arms. There is no banning or shunning for eternity. Everyone has an opportunity to come back. But the thing you must appreciate here with this kind of discipline is that the congregation as a whole comes first. No one person is above that. | |

I am a good natured Baptist. We don't roll that why. Well, not all JWs agree with this. I think you'll find that every denomination has hardcore members with a kind of "put up or shut up" attitude. In fact, one of the most fanatical people I've ever known was a Baptist. Now, I've known enough Baptists in my time to realise that this person is not representative of that sect. There are hardcore JWs who "disfellowship" members of their flock when they screw up, but my understanding is that this varies between different Kingdom Halls (the JWs on here can elucidate that better than I could). Ultimately, I believe, its up to the Elders on what course of action to take, and "disfellowship" in most JW groups is fairly rare. I went to a non-denominational church a few years back, and the head pastor threw a couple out for moving in with each other. I, and many others, strongly objected to this course of action. I never went back to that church, even though I truly liked many things about it, and 99% of their doctrine was in line with my own beliefs. It was that 1% that was the problem. Churches are formed by humans, for the worship and service of God. Because we are human, we are fallible, sometimes even in the service of God. This doesn't mean that the church is wrong, but rather that its congregation is made up of people who make mistakes. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater, as the old cliche goes. I don't agree with many things in JW doctrine, and I even occasionally debate points on here with my JW friends. However, as I get older, I find its much more productive to focus on what we agree on (this goes for folks of all faiths). Like Prince said "we should champion our similarities, not our differences. Let's meet on a higher level". Peace.

I typed Mattie Shaw ( prince's mom) in the search engine. Her obit comes up. IT says that the funeral was held at Zion Batpist church in North Minneapolis. What JW would be buried at a BAPTIST service. The article is clearly wrong/lying when it states that he converted due to his mother's beliefs. Like I said, if they are wrong about a major fact like that, (it's easy to find out where his mom's funeral was) what else are they wrong about or making up????? **************************************************

You know, I think that a lot of folks here are eager to believe what the article said simply because they're dying to hear some facts regarding this aspect of Prince's life. There's not much info out there to refute the info, so whatever comes out, people just gobble it up. We're talking about the intimate details of another human beings' life here. I'm sure that was one of the ploys that Larry Graham used to get Prince interested in the religion; called, the resurrection. While there are many JW beliefs that I have a problem with, there are also many beliefs of other religions that I have a problem with. Catholics believe in purgatory. I ain't never seen that in my Bible. Catholics believe that Mary remained a virgin until she died when the Bible clearly talks about Jesus having siblings. I'm kinda interested in the fact that Prince has been relating his songs to God throughout his career, and there isn't one mention of it in this article. Anyone remember "The Cross"? Of course he would have been effected by the death of his parents and his child, who the hell wouldn't? Despite his amazing talent, he's still a human being. One last thing... am I the only person who thinks that Musicology (the single), is a bit boring? Personally, I think The Rainbow Children was his return to form. Haven't posted on here in a couple years, but was reading on here, and found this article, then I had some things I wanted to say to those not very familiar with us(note, I'm not aiming towards former JWs as I do not speak to people that chose to live with sin):
First, yes, I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I'm 23, and a cult is something that follows the teachings of a living man/woman, no religion that claims belief in Jesus Christ as their leader is a cult(use a dictionary, for cryin out loud!) Second, Okay, so he is one. I was a fan of early Prince, and his cleaner stuff for years. What difference does his religious preference make? Esp. coming from those of you that are Homosexual? But tell the truth, I'd be much more afraid of a weirdo I meet face to face than someone on the internet... I've met some pretty scary people over the years, and the least of them have been here at the org. I'm talking about people I've met in the door-to-door ministry... murderers, child molesters, etc. One example - a really "nice" kid who ended up killing his father... I had known him for years, brought him magazines, has nice discussions with him.  etc etc... OOf not even getting into the story of the Sandinista Death Squad guy. Who thought I was hot! as I found out later, & ended up slashing his girlfriend.
I'm just not overly eager to categorize people, tell the truth. Some seem like people one might label "apostate" but in fact, they are not. Some of the above - not mentioning any names - have since become JWs. They had merely been looking into different belief systems, and finally settled on what we teach as truthful. Of course, if all of this scares you in some way, better to stay away... We all have the responsibility before Jehovah to exercise properly the free will he has given us. To each one his conscience. Just the same, I'm not one to argue line-by-line in a forum, that bores the heck out of me. Also, the Bible doesn't mention ALLAH as God, which makes him a FALSE GOD. But this is not about Muslims, but they are just as wrong. U can't believe just some parts of the Bible, then make up your own book 2 suit your own beliefs (like the 'holy' koran) or reprint the Bible and change words and scriptures and pass it as truth (like the NEW WORLD TRANSLATION OF THE BIBLE that JWs use.) The Bible says in the last chapter of Revelations "neither take away or add anything 2 God's word" or U will go straight 2 HELL! His word is the truth, alpha and omega and when all things and us all pass away, his word will still stand. I'm through with this discussion. I can only plant the seed. It's not up 2 me 2 save the world. But I hope U confused and unbelieving souls will repent and come 2 know JESUS CHRIST as the true SAVIOR, repent and turn from your wicked ways.
