The Slaughterhouse is Prince's rap/hip-hop album ... in a very broad sense.
I've been listening to Musicology and The Chocolate Invasion non-stop, and I decided it was time to use my old NPGMC mp3s to burn the Slaughterhouse album. I was listening to it on the way to work this morning (my 'new' car has an awesome sound system - possibly the best system I have), and it hit me. Now I know that the people here who are into rap/hip-hop will probably disagree with me, but this album is the furthest Prince will ever go in making a full rap/hip-hop record. And the sequencing works well. After years of playing around with the NPGMC tracks, I've been pleasantly surprised by how cohesive both The Chocolate Invasion and The Slaughterhouse sound. Thoughts on this?

Prince and hip-hop, it's like ice-cream and battery-acid. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

I think it's too much of a grab-bag to be considered a proper "album". Where TCI gets away
with it -slightly-, "Slaughterhouse" just doesn't cut it as a decent album. The tracks are cool enough, but compared to some of his other albums [take, for instance, the monolithical rock of cohesiveness, organic flow and experimental toure de force that is "The Rainbowchildren] it lacks a fluid movement that's strong enough to carry the weight of the songs into an "album" modus. Anywho. I do like "The Chocolate Invasion" as an album this way. Although, as always, I'm tempted to add songs to it and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

For those who downloaded Slaughter..Is it any different than songs we already have? I downloaded TCI and I enjoy that. Love the sound improvements and music adjustments. Any info? Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Now if he started singin' Gangsta rap now that's where it'd get crazy & he start dressin' wit baggy pants & R/HH brand name clothing on(big big shirts) naw..can't imagine P doin' that. He would howeva look cute in dem big flight jackets they wear, lolz. & he'd haf2 keep the heels..I mean him in AF1s,Adiddas,Timbz,Jordans,& etc. Whoa! anotha new topic idea, lolz. ~1~ [This message was edited Thu Apr 8 17:29:21 2004 by KeLo07] My 2004 August Highlights: *Tuesday 24th*-best day of my lifeI get my *LEARNERS*-Oh yeah it's ALL good!!

i am really digging the Slaughterhouse. For some reason the songs sound so much better than before in this context, as a full album. I never really cared for any of these songs before, but now - listening to them together as a full CD - they are clicking somehow. I don't know why. But it's good stuff. Very funky. A funky little nasty underground record, like the black album for modern times without the language. Me likes.

Thoughts on this? You ever heard the NPG's "Goldnigga" CD? That was dropped back in like 1994 and that is Prince and hip-hop all the way, man.

Well, except for the fact that Tony M's flow was truly WHACKED! You could argue its hip-hop, sure, but it was atrocious hip hop! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)
