"U CAN'T NAME A ANOTHER GUITAR PLAYER,SINGER AND SHOWMANSHIP" ? What is that supposed to mean? I can "NAME A ANOTHER GUITAR PLAYER", in fact one musician that is equal or superior to Prince in singing, guitar and putting on consistently good shows is Bruce Springteen. Ever heard of him?

Smart asses? That's derogatory. Whose album dethroned "Purple Rain" from its top spot and outsold it? That would be Springsteen's "Born in the USA"

Which artist won an academy award for best song? That would Springsteen with "Streets of Philadelphia".

No can top Prince? Springsteen has sold more records, done more concerts in bigger venues (and longer shows than Prince), more charity appearances, and has won more awards than Prince. In addition, has many songs (like "Born to Run") that are american classics. By these objective standards, Springsteen has topped Prince. I suspect that you have nothing more to offer in a rebuttle than the sour grapes "No one can dethrone Prince".

Let me begin by saying I dig Bruce alot. That being said....

Springsteen compared to Prince:
-Could Bruce ever do the splits? The detroit crawl? Wooden Leg?
-Can Bruce play drums?
-Prince has done scores of american classic rock songs "Purple Rain", "Little Red Corvette",etc. Has Bruce ever done any funk songs? Dance songs? Ballads? Club anthems? Musicals?
-Sure the Boss won an academy award for a song. Did he ever star in his own movie and win an award for the entire soundtrack?
-Did "Born in the USA" sell more total than "Purple Rain"?
-Did Bruce ever successfully produce other groups or write songs that were hits for others?
-Yeah Bruce has legendary 3 hours shows-does he then do a 2 hour aftershow afterwards?
-Prince: enraged Tipper Gore with his lyrics and is responsible for the parental advisory label. Bruce: Ronald Regan's re-election theme song.
-Has an album ever been produced, composed, arranged, and performed entirely by Springsteen on his own?
-How long is Bruce's longest album?
-How many albums has Bruce released?
-Is the typical Springsteen audience as varied or diverse as Prince's?

Okay I'm done for now.
"New Power slide...."

Plus, as someone else already pointed out (albeit in caps!), Prince won an Academy Award for best song with Purple Rain....a long time before Springsteen got his (also much-deserved) statue for Philadelphia.

Not that it matters. And whoever started this thread, please don't start any more if you can't at least try to actually SAY something...take off your cap lock and try to remember that you're supposed to complete your sentences. wink

Bruce Springsteen is not 1/5 of the guitar player that Prince is, and he is not half the singer. There is no more things to say, they are not even on the same league. Prince is up there with Stevie Wonder, and Bruce Springsteen is up there with lenny kravitz.

If you consider it being dethroned after spending 6 consecutive months at the top spot when both albums were released at about the same time...

By these objective standards...

This thread has the downward spiral potential of being every bit as adolescent as the MJ vs. Prince threads.

I would have to agree with the originator of this thread. The totality of Prince's talents is unparalleled, I think.

I dig Bruce but there is no comparison between him and P, he has not wrot e half as many songs, not to mention for other artists, how many side projects has Bruce had, why was he not up there with P at the H.O.F. guitar soloing?, can Bruce play piano? dance? I could go on and on.

Zappa- I can't account for because I have really heard his stuff.

Springsteen- I have heard and I can say his stuff no where nears the quality of Prince's music.

Why the competiton all the time its just fuckin music, there is no better or worse inspite of record sales or how popular they are, If you prefer Prince to Springteen good for you but it dont make him better.Perhaps Springsteen fans dont like Prince's music or all the dancing perhaps they just prefer Bruce's sexy struttin. lol

guitar-player, singer and showman ... you're talking about Jimi Hendrix I suppose?

So Prince can do all three ....

but there are thousands better guitar-players
there are a lot of great singers
there are a few legendary showman ... but James Brown is the most legendary.

that's why bands were invented ... so musician can work together.
George Clinton doesn't come close to Prince as a guitar-player, singer or showman ..... but FUNKADELIC - PARLIAMENT did.

Prince's "I can do it all alone" attitude worked untill 1983 ...
after LoveSexy he couldn't do it all alone anymore ....
he could fuck it up all alone!

Don't get me wrong ... I'm the greatest Prince-fan ...
but I'm getting sick and tired of the worshipping!
