HUNDALASILIAH ?? Is that even a word? People often list it as a lyric in "Eye No," but I always thought he was saying "Act a little silly ya'll". If he is saying "HUNDALASILIAH," what the hell does it mean?

I think it means Halleluiah...but it's his version of the word. The song creates a picture of him at the pulpit, so I think it's Halleluiah.

if memory serves me, that means "Praise God" in tongues, in which case if no one knows what tongues is. its a language spoken during Pentacostal prayer when one is blessed with the Holy Ghost. | |

I'm familiar with the idea of "Speaking in Tongues"...but I didn't know there was a dictionary or set of commonly-used words. I thought it was about saying things that only the person and God could understand...? The message you're about to hear is not meant for transmission

I agree with RealFiness. When Lovesexy came out I used to go to a Pentecostal church and when people started praying and talking in tongues, I would regularly hear " Hundelusiah". I never knew what it meant, but Prince shouted it on "  No" I never second guessed the word. However, I do remember there being a thread about that some time ago that the word was the scientific name for either the flower prince is sitting on or next to on the cover of Lovesexy. I'm pretty sure it's a word Prince made up, like Souli-a-collia
(or is that Semi-a-collia? I can never make up my mind). Anyway, Hundalasiliah, in the context that Prince sings it, definitely comes across like an exclaimation of 'Praise the Lord!" or "Hallelujah" though. So that's what I've always taken it to mean. | |
