PRINCE HAS NOT HAD A TOP 10 HIT SINCE EMANCIPATION!

SOMETIME'S THE BEST OF US CAN MAKE A MISTAKE AND PRINCE IS MAKING SOME MISTAKES ON THIS ALBUM. U DON'T HAVE 2 HEAR AN ALBUM 2 KNOW IT'S RESULT. IT'S VERY SIMPLE,THE FIRST SINGLE TELLS ALL, IT'S THE STRENGTH OF THE ALBUM. PLANE AND SIMPLE.THE FIRST SINGLE IS THE PROMOTION OF THE ALBUM. THIS IS WHY VIDEOS ARE MADE AND TELEVISION APPEARANCES AND RADIO PROMOTIONS. IF THE SINGLE FELLS MUST LIKELY SO DOES THE ALBUM. PRINCE HAS NOT SEEN A HIT IN 8YRS.HE HAS TO MAKE BETTER SINGLE SELECTION IF HE WANT A HIT ALBUM.

the album isn't even out yet. for the billionth time, people need to stop jumping to conclusions and wait till the album is released and till people have heard it IN FULL before makin such judgements.

as for it being a hit, who cares?

Actually prince hasn't had a top ten hit since Beautiful Girl (in '94)...and as for Emancipation on the Billboard charts, I believe it peaked at 11 in the first week it was out -- and then slipped off without any catchy single.

But I'm looking forward to Musicology, I'm even going to the first show in LA -- but then again outside of his instrumentals, I've always liked/loved something on each album. Hell the live box set is one of my top ten, definatly.

Come on now….First off he hasn’t released that many singles in the past 8 years…so to say he hasn’t had a hit in years is really unfair. Though, he has made quite a bit of money for himself in the last 8 years. Ask him if he thinks he’s been successful.

And who says that the first single has to be the strongest? That’s not true. On MJ’s Thriller and Bad, they released ballads as the first singles. To my recollection Thriller had it’s strongest single with the LAST single. Many artists have not released the best single or even song on their album as their lead off. Heck even with The Work (if that was even a single) it certainly wasn’t the best song on TRC nor was it indicative of the album.

The singles been chosen and video made…can’t undo what’s been done. So, it’s best to sit and wait...and enjoy for those of us that are... until it comes out before starting a new thread to say how Musicology is going to suck!

Hmm...I have no idea, but the fact that a behemoth like Sony is behind it bodes well for it commercially. Artistically? Again, I have no idea. Because who knows if Prince was FEELING it while creating the whole thing. I've only heard the lead-off single, and wasn't really impressed - but I was perplexed by "Doves" when I first heard it 20 years ago too. Over the years I've learned that a lot of Prince's music isn't easily digested after hearing it once, twice, and sometimes three times. It sometimes grows into something else when you take it in on repeated listenings.

It could be a hit commercially without being one artistically (or vice versa). We see that all the time with most of the music that hits big nowadays. Everytime there's a new album coming out, I hope Prince is FEELING it, instead of having the musical disposition of punching the clock.

no no no, the "i hear air" was a bit of a joke--i said that because besides the, what, 2 or so songs that we've all heard, there ain't much else for people to base their opinions upon. very scant.

therefore, i hear air. get it? giggle
