where is larry?

Hey I was just wondering if Larry attended the Grammies with Prince?

Was he with him at the In Style/Warner Globe After-Party?
HOB show?

Maybe Prince has already kicked him to the curb...?

Does anyone know???

I could care where that fool is. Let's hope he says as far away from Prince as possible.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Where's Larry? I couldn't possibly care less. He never contributed in any truly significant way.

Why do people hate Larry so much, I'm asking for answers. I don't follow Prince as close as some of you, so could you tell me why you hate Larry? Is it because he's some sort of svengali figure who influences prince in a bad way? As far as him contributing nothing, that is not true. Just his 30 some odd years ago inventions on the bass and his contribution to funk are central and always have been to Prince's music. I think it's kinda cool that Prince rewards some of these unsung guys like Maceo and Larry, he doesn't have to do that. It's a mark of kindness and generosity of spirit that he helps these guys out, because he knows damn good and well what they've given. I often wonder where is the great Sly Stone, and why don't anybody help him out? If a style could be converted to royalties he would be richer than rich. I heard for years that he fried his brains and I guess it's true but it's also unfair to see new bands coming out even now who take everything from Sly and give nothing back. I hate to think that Sly is lying in some alley somewhere.

Larry Graham has been an important influence
on funk music & an incredible influence on bassplaying,
but what bugs me is the fact that when playing with
Prince they made it sound like he took all the credits
from Sly Stone who´s 1 of the biggest pioneers of
black music but 2day lives as a recluse.
What if Prince would disapear & all of a sudden
BrownMark pops up playing Prince songs & talking about
how the Minneapolis sound changed the world.
When Graham perfoms he does Sly songs like
"If you want me to stay" & he never even played on the
original track.That´s Sly playing bass.
Now Larry is a fantastic bassplayer & did some
awsome stuff with his own band "Graham Central Station".
He should proudly concentrate on that I think.
Also ,I was a huge Grahan fan until he made Prince
change lyrics 2 his own songs.

You make supervalid points about Larry's limitations on his contribution to Sly. From what I heard Sly did his masterpiece Riot, pretty much alone. I can't follow prince as closely as I would like, i don't have the money to get bootlegs or whatever else you use as a source. Where did you think he was claiming credit, please let me know, I want to see it. I do think Sly was certainly the genius behind funk but without that bottom it wouldn't have been the same. Larry seems like a happy nice guy. Your analogy to Prince and Mark Brown is not a very good one simply because, Brown Mark was just a player, as far as I know he didn't contribute anything particularly creative to Prince or the Minneapolis sound which was creatted by Prince in the studio, alone pretty much. Also, the great Minneapolis sound has not survived as a cultural force at all. I don't think. It's had it's influence but it was not like motown, rap, or Sly, or Jimi. Thanks for your answers I'll check back.

Once again people who don't know anything are making asses out of themselves.

Larry Graham is the man who invented the "slap" technique with the bass guitar and is an innovator in Funk.
In 1997 Prince was scheduled to play at the GEC on the same evening that Sinbad's Summer Funk Tour was across town at the Nashville Ampitheater.Prince held up his concert for 3 hours just so he could see Larry sn others such as the P-Funk All Stars play.Prince returned to the GEC and gave his best Nashville concerts and then led a 3 hour aftershow at the Music City Mix Factory which was truly incredible.Prince became good friends with Larry and his wife and this friendship led to a spritual change with Prince.
The last 4-5 years of the 1990's were probably the toughest in his life.In 1996,his child was born without eyes and soon passed away. His album,Emancipation, was released on BMI records which soon after the release of the album went bankrupt .Six songs rotted on the vine waiting to be released. In 1999 Prince & Mayte "divorced" .A second comeback album ,Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic flopped. In the first couple of years in the new century ,Prince's parents both died and his siblings (which are crack addicts) sued to get the houses Prince bought for his parents.

This is my point .Prince was in need of someone to be his FRIEND and mentor.Larry Graham was that person. If you had the opportunity how many of you could be that person.

Great said! Think the same!
thumbs up! wave

All those who care about the real prince , should be glad about their friendship, instead dissing Larry all the time. I guess that it was more on Larry that he collaborated with Prince and invested his time for him, because Larry don´t really care about his music career. I´ve even didn´t found a website of Larry, or some official promo from him, only from NPG. UNBELIVABLE! Every meaningless musician has it, but the bass legend and funk developeer Larry G. not. Why?

Great answer, thanks for putting it in perspective for these folks. All we see is the public not the private prince, he's had his share of dissapointments like any human. I guess the fans can be forgiven for being selfish and shortsighted in their opinions though.

Unless you have definitive proof, I don't think posting that kind of unfounded information helps your cause.I don't think you know that for a fact.

Larry's contribution on the bass is well documented. No less an authority than bootsie collins gave him all the credit for the slap syle. Without that, funk would not be funk. It would be some kind of mix between james brown and pop.

Because he's a freaky-ass Jehovah's Witness who is much more restrictive in his belief system than Prince is...although the gap is closing.

Isn't there some JW doctrine about idolatry or pictures stealing your souls or some combination of those two? The JWs pretty much ban anything that might bring an ounce of joy to anyone who is outside of the JW faith.

EVERYTHING mentioned in the post above has been documented via print and internet media.

Why do people think Graham brainwashed Prince ?
This is crazy as Hell.Prince is a grown man who has made grown-up decisions since he was 13-14 years old.

Why do JW's have to be called names ?
I am not a JW but I respect their beliefs.

I am not "gay",but I respect their right to life, liberty,& happiness.

Bumpsquad ?

1.Believe it or not Emancipation was supposed to have a 3 year cycle with about 4-6 songs to be targeted for radio.
Betcha,Holy River,FaceDown, are the only 3 I can think of now and 3 others were to be "hits".

2.When Prince's mother passed away it was mentioned that a couple of Prince's siblings were on drugs.A sister on his father's side sued Prince in probate over the Purple House and other "items" in the John Nelson estate. She lost her case.I believe the Purple House was destroyed.

3. Gregory Nelson was born with a birth defect where he had no eye sockets. This was documented on the org and also several local news sources.I do not have 100% proof of this being true but Prince,Mayte, nor any other offical source has disputed this.

Also let me state for the record .
1. I have been a Prince fan since 1982 .(1999)

2. I lurked on the ORG for 4 years before I joined. If you pay attention you will notice that some of the people that come here actually have good information and knowledge regarding Prince and his music.Sadly, in the efforts of the ORG meisters to make things better for all of us,some come here and post lies, mistruths, and out and out bullshit.

I my friend am not one of those persons.
