OUTKAST's intro SUCKED! HOW INSULTING!

ALICIA KEYS WAS RIGHT ON THE MONEY and SHE SAID IT WITH SOUL and from the heart....Thank goodness she was added to the bill.

That was a great opening sequence!!!

But who the hell asked OutKast to "induct" him:???

That was so embarassing.... they came across like uneducated thugs.... If Big Boi is so inspired by Prince, can't he think of something a little more profound to say other than "he used the F-word" in Erotic City?

That was really class-less.

At least Alicia Keys is giving a well-written, poetic speech .

PS I STILL don't get the Outkast as the new Prince thing. This just proves to me they are cheap, crass, imitators.

They just acted all "street" and talkeda bout how when they were young they liked Prince cuz their cousin was a ladies' man and liked Prince, and Big Boi thought it was really "inspiring" that P used the F word in Erotic City.

It makes me sick that they are even allowed on the same stage as Prince.

Alicia Keys TOTALLY seemed like ENTRANCED is Right...She's so Cool. Outkast just Andre talked about meeting Prince they didn't have much of Substance to say but MS ALICIA so Cool was so RIGHt ON! Prince is so Humble and Sweet and Generally Caring as a Teacher to other Artists. He's so Genuine and it's sooo Refreshing..Ya wanna Know why I would go to any lengths to see him Perform? Well, Man this is just merely one reason. And as he says PRINCE WILL MAKE YOU HOT! He CERTAINLY Will or else You are DEAD!!! PEACE fellow Fans.... biggrin

I actually liked OutKast's intro. It was sincere and they gave Prince his props...that's all that matters. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the band...contrary to some of the recent performances, it wasn't too horn-heavy. Everything sounded perfectly balanced to me.

Congrats Prince!! woot!

So how many pounds of weed did Alicia Keys smoke before she got up there? LOL.

Anywhoo...what a great performance by Prince! Kiss went over real smooth, that sorta swanky version of SOTT was very cool, and he concluded Lets Go Crazy with that great guitar solo that sounded just as good as it did 20 years ago.

I'll definitely be taping this next time it airs (I couldnt grab a tape in time for 2night, lol)

disbelief good gravy...as much as they look up to prince, you'd think they'd say somethin a bit more dignified. what kinna crud is that? confused

OMG! That band, THAT BAND!!! Is Prince and his band awesome or what??? The absolute fonkiest version of "Sign O' The Times" - EVER - PERIOD!

I could be mistaken, but I think I saw "shock and awe" on the faces of some of the people in attendance. Did anyone else get that impression?

Now for my 2 cents on Outkast. Andre really wasn't that bad, but Big Boi was definitely out of his league. For those you familiar with the term "straight ghetto!" well... that's pretty much how Big Boi came across. Andrea was little better though (in my opinion), although not by much.

Alicia's poetic words were indeed very nice. There were a couple of times where I thought she was a little over-dramatic, but it was still very nicely done.

Yep, it was way too informal, almost like someone stopped them on the street and asked them what they thought of Prince. With an honor as big as this, you'd think Outkast would at least sit down for a couple hours and write up somethin special to say, instead of just rambling like that.

I'm not sure what you mean by the performance wasn't "too horn-heavy". Kiss was the exact same version he performed on Ellen if I'm not mistaken. Hadn't heard him play the new arrangement of Sign o The Times or the complete new arrangement of Let's Go Crazy so maybe those are a bit different I don't know, but Kiss sounded the same to me.

I agree that the performance was pretty-much the same as Ellen...I don't know if the *sound guys* did something different or if Prince directed them to back down a bit, but there was definitely a sound-improvement to my ears. I remember watching Ellen and feeling overwhelmed by the horns...I didn't get that feeling this time.

Two and a half more hours to go on this coast. I can't wait.
Sounds like most were pleased with Alicia Keyes speech and upset by OutKast. Too bad Common or Chuck D. didn't induct Prince. I know a lot of people don't agree with many of Chuck's views, but he's a great speaker. And I love Common. I think he would have done Prince proud. Oh well, I'm just glad Prince made it into the RRHoF on the first try. I'm so proud of him.

Its rock n roll and there will be classless acts going on. It isn't the Oscars lol. But..you would think Andre and Co. would have had something more "substantial" to say and way of expressing it. And that Alicia didn't act as if she was ina remedial reading classs. With all the blather they said, which on paper was probably better, it seemed passionless. C'est la vie (c'est la vie!)
Oh my, oh my.

I don't think Andre's intro was that bad. What he conveyed was that musicians "back in those days" actually played instruments, had polished dance moves and interesting personalities, something that is clearly lacking today with the standard issue basketball jerseys, medallions, and tracks that take 8 producers to come up with a beat and a synth line. This concept is something that has rubbed off at least a little on Outkast, whatever your opinions of them may be.
