a reaction i didnt expect to the RRHOF

sitting watching the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME, i was overcome with emotion -- i never thought this would happen to me, but, i waited to see the show, and when it came on, i felt so proud and so happy for him all at once, my body wouldnt sit still, i found myself on the edge of my couch, as if i was there, watching, waiting like the rest of the people there...hanging on his every note and in awe of his greatness. All at once, without thought, i broke out in tears...tears that ran through the whole performace, sometimes mixed with laughter, to see him recognized in that way... Prince has become such an incredible artist of our time, and to know that i have watched him grow over the past 25 years, that i share him with such wonderful people, and that the love the music runs through his veins as freely as it does...words cannot express how 'proud' i am of him and everything he wanted in life, the road couldnt be easy, but, he walked it with grace....made a name for himself that will never be forgotten...one man, one artist, many many works of art....

congrats to ya prince, and for finding your 'purple rain' worship

I felt something similar. I relflected on my own juxtaposed with Princes' long journey. Seeing the old pics and vids they presented: never thought it would get to this HOF since even back then they didnt even HAVE a HOF what..until 1986-87? I rmemeber back when folks were debating if he would get an immediate induction due to his less than affable/congenial attitude to those in the industry etc. How odd that he has become respectable after all of this time.
Oh my, oh my.

I hear what you're saying, but I don't think anyone in the biz... including the Power That BE in biz... stoppeed respecting Prince as a "true artist and true musician". I do think that by challenging the status quo, it definitely got him black balled, but at the same time I don't think anyone really tried to strip him of his props either. His impact on music is undeniable, and everyone knows that. Could they have NOT inducted Prince? Sure. But again, Prince's impact on the music of our time is undeniable and no lack of recognition or awards can take that away from him. Still though, as along time fan since "the beginning", I have to admit that it is very nice to see Prince formally recognized for all he has done.

I agree. What I meant was at the time of mid 90's with the name and slave era, it seemed as if the biz thought of him as a joke, even with his 80's status locked up. Not that he would be overlooked forever but maybe not an immediate first time (first award too hehe) inductee.

A lot of things have changed since he left WB etc. His past rebellion against the system is now de' riguer and the beliefs are now widely held amongst many many musicians.

Same here!!! And I saw it in cleveland at the simulcast- I said Alicia could not have said it better! But bein in the RRHOF that night was soooo powerful. I myself have been influenced and inspired by Prince's music for 23 years. What a great feeling to be there- see it, feel it and of course hear it..as it happened. And now...I have the videos from VH1 too!

lol- back in the day...when he sang..".If any1 asks...u belong to prince"...I did. LOL and still do!
Mad love to prince and all who have supported him!

Prince elevated his game to a level where his only rival is himself.
Thus ,we come here and bitch and moan when ..."he didnt sound like_____."

Enjoy this Musical Force that the God has given to us because some of his fellow hall members JIMI, JOHN,ELVIS are all gone and all is left is old stuff.

It was very emotional to say the very least. I didn't cry because... well... i just don't cry very easily. But I must admit, I came very close during Alicia's speech. Just hearing another person articulate the way I see Prince and his music so concisely, so perfectly, with such feeling and poise... Simply inspiring.

Another reaction that I had that I think some of us might also share is that while on the whole the performances on the show were very good to outstanding, I got the distinct impression that the rest of the artists (most of them, anyway) being inducted either knew or felt like they were on the downside of their careers. Prince knows that he's not.

I cried when he got his award. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember (I'm 20). I defended him to my classmates in junior high when he was going through the "Slave" era, and watching all those clips as Alicia and OutKast were introducing him, I think tonight was the most proud I've ever been to be a Prince fan. The talent, the poise, the charisma...he's just the whole package, and he showed all of that and then some up on that stage. Congratulations to Prince - there have been very few artists more deserving of induction than him.

Last night, I put my kids out of my bedroom, turned the sound up and laughed and giggled like a little girl just like I did about the Grammy performance almost 20 years ago. I think I'm obsessed.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I was dancing in front of the tv and everything and the whole thing the performance, Alicia and Outkast speech and what I really like was the footage they showed while Alicia was talking. They even showed a brief part of the New York show in 1981 during his Dirty Mind tour when he was stroking his guitar and I liked the 85 AMA footage and everything they put together. If they were inducting me into the RRHOF, that's the footage I would like them to put together. Congrats Prince

I love you and am so happy 4 U.

it was truly an emotonal crescendo for fans who have followed his career closely. I also happen to worship the beatles, and to get both these converge was too much to believe. its like a movie. Its like Purple Rain the movie....
