Musicology will barely make the top 200!

I am a true fan of prince and i am not afraid to speak the true, so i will. Prince is a genius and a legend with a great body of work and therefore be recognize for his achievement's.
(RRHF, awards, soldout shows, television appearance's ect) now having said that, Prince's stubbornness that got him to the top is the same stubbornness that's going to take him to the bottom.Prince once said that, after he drop his first album 4u that he would make music for the mainstream rather then for him self and he became one of music's biggest stars. If Prince want's major labels and hit records again as he's claiming then he know's what he has the do and that is make hit records. People want's hit records and the Prince name alone will not be enough plain and simple. If prince drop old and boring songs from his vault for the sake of dropping a album then his album will only make the top 200! Peace LAX

First off, you don't know what the album is going to do, you are making a guess. 2nd thing, If he doesn't care if the album goes top 100 or whatever, then why does it bother you so much? Its his career and he can chose any path that he wants to. If he wants a major label then so be it and if he doesn't then so be it also. As long as he keeps making good music I don't care where it sits on the charts.

He once said that at the time of 4U? Do U understand he was a newbie and young?
Should he keep the same concepts about musc life etc... in 2004 as he was feeling it in 1978? Please....just let it go. Except the fact he's the way he is and No Worries....

The brothas alot wiser these days, maybe not 2 everyones liking, but thats why we have R own lives....

I have to agree with Claps on this one.

Speculation will only ruin the outcome.

Remember this one?:

"...insiders say that 'Partyman' is said to be some of his strongest work in years..."

...a quote from "Random Notes" in a 1989 Rolling Stone

And then when there was no real puplic hype, 'The Rainbow Children' kicked MY ass. I can't speak for the rest of you, of course, but, my ass was definitely kicked.

So, yes, let 'Musicology' first drop, then we can praise or shit on it accordingly.

OnTheCorner

I don't know if I'm missing the point, but it seems like Prince has always used his record label to fulfiil not only his artistic desires but also to pursue his own "political" agenda.

What is the agenda? To eliminate all forms of the music industry from the world of music. So, that includes charts like the Billboard 200, that change music from an art to a commodity...etc.

Therefore, the strategy has always been to demonstrate to industry execs and other musicians, especially, that it is possible to enjoy both comercial and artistic success. In other words, 'so what if my album doesn't show up on the Billboard 200. I have a sold out tour and have distributed millions of copies of my new cd to my fans. And if they choose to make it a hit by requesting it on the radio, then so be it.'

You can argue over the level of success that Prince has had in achieving his political agenda and whether or not he's been hypocritical in pursuing, but I don't think any of us can argue with the goal itself.

As for the content, I think most of us now that even his worst albums are better than half of the stuff that is on the charts right now. It seems to me that the people who want "Musicology" on the charts are unsure of that opinion and desperately want it to be reaffirmed. Prince, at least to me, has made it rather apparent that if that happens good but if not, it doesn't matter because he is doing what he has to do with regards to his political agenda.

Sorry for the rant.

Exactly. Most peeps don't give a flyin' fuck-stain how the record charts. They just want an album that makes their booty shake, and their head bob.

Maybe if someone is trying to live a vicarious rock & roll lifestyle through Prince, then a mufukka should have some concearn.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Thumparello

The lp if released in a public forum will most likely chart high. He is back in the public spotlight. Whether it stays there is a wait and see thing. Every great artist experiences some kind of commercial comeback if they have a long career like Prince. So I have to disagree.

I'll let you in on a little secret. Artist have hit records when their record company wants them to have a hit records. Prince does not have a record company so he has not sold a lot of records lately I don't think he is to concerned about this anymore and I don't think you should lose sleep over it either.

I DONT GIVE A DAMN WHAT BILLBOARD THINKS BECAUSE WHEN HE WAS ON TOP THEY FUCKED HIM !

1992- 7 was #3 on the Billboard chart and stayed there a month before falling repeating a trend that happened before....
1991- D&P stayed #2 for weeks (3or 4)and other "singers" jumped over the song.
The song was #1 on every other chart except for Billboard.

1987 - U Got the Look #2 for 5 weeks .Head 2 Toe by Lisa Lisa and The Pleasure Principle by Damita Jo played leapfrog with Prince.

1985 - Purple Rain the single- stayed # 2 for months on the Billboard chart although it was the most played song on top 40 and the Black(Urban) charts.

The Grammy of the year in 1984 went to the Police for Every Breath You Take ( which is one of my favorite songs ever) but When Doves Cry was the most sold, played, and videoed that year.

Point is Prince gave me the freedom to like what I want to like .MTV,BET,VH-1,Warners,Clive Davis and the like cannot make the choice for me NOW.

Free your mind !
