Favorite recording techniques??

Im a fan of the "expensive" sound from the 90's. Whats some of you favs? The new "actually expensive, but sounds basic" sound is kinda cool, but seemingly boring.

his flang effects..
ie. subtle flang on snares of "Erotic City", slow flang on the highhats of "She's Always In My Hair", those bending synthy flangs on "Screams of Passion" (during the verse).

I like the 'forgot to set things up and push the right buttons because I haven't had a holiday for two years' effect used by Susan Rogers every now and then.

the Linn drum (machine) processed through guitar effects, then pitched down.
and his vocals when recorded 1/2 speed. then bumped up to normal speed for that 'Camille' vocal.

that was the most inspired, raw, and funky stuff IMO- camille, sott, black album, etc.

I like the Camile voice along with the reversing techniques...especially the reversed drums played throughout Sheila E.'s "Bedtime Story" and the backwards guitar in "Shortberry Strawcake." thumbs up!

I think Prince was also singing something along with the backwards guitar...something about "I wanna love you.." I tried to make it out with the reversing effect on my PC, but didn't have much luck.

Can someone help me out with something that's been bugging me for ages...?

In the Housequake 12", 'Mo'Quake', WHERE does that distorted Prince line "Get over it",towards the end, come from??? Every time I hear it, I can't put my finger on it.

I think he's saying "Gilbert.... get the keys" but I 'd have to listen to it again. Gilbert was someone that actually drove him around in an an unmarked van on the lovesexy tour (among many many other things) I know about that 'cause I encountered that van and gilbert and the secret VIP sitting in the back outside of the OCean CLub in houston way back then....

I think the two peaks of Prince's recording special effects are: the tight almost atonal sound he got on "irrisistible bitch" with all that weird effected vocals and shit going throughout...

and... The Ball.

I think The Ball is a special effects masterpiece. Backwards guitar, glass bottle sounds, single wah'd guitar lick at the funkiest possible moment in every measure...
