Gold Nigga - Prince involvement

How much involvement did Prince have for the NPG album GOLD NIGGA????

Is it worth getting?

Also, does anyone else also consider NEW POWER SOUL as EXODUS Part 2????

Involvement? It's a Prince album, like all the NPG albums.

No, what I mean is....does he actually sing and perform on it much, not just write the songs on it???

Yes, Prince plays all over the record. He sings lead on Black MF In The House, and can be heard vocally throughout.

The price seems to be way up there right now, especially for the version with the extra track (Guess Who's Knockin'). I like the album alot.

I wonder why there was a version of GoldNigga released WITHOUT "Guess Who's Knockin"? Does the alternate version include a different track in the place of "Guess Who's Knockin" or did they just delete the track. Funny how an album like GoldNigga has become a "rare" Prince collectible.

I think each NPG album stands on its own. Each album seems to be some kind of musical outlet for Prince and his band, except with a lot more emphasis on the contributions of his band members. But personally, I don't think Prince has ever done a "part 2" of ANYTHING as far as his music is concerned. So NewPowerSoul is NewPowerSoul, and Exodus is Exodus... there's no connection between the two as far as I can tell.

Guess Who's Knockin' contains a Paul McCartney melody copped from "Let Him In".

I didn't mean it was a carbon-copy or anything like that, I meant it's like the continuation of EXODUS with the sleeve design (artwork and illustrations etc) and the fact that the title track NEW POWER SOUL is a reworking of one of the EXODUS tracks etc. It's like the next part of the story and a new chapter.

No, it's not a continuation of 'Exodus': apart from some similar artwork, the opening title track, 'Newpower Soul' recycling two lines from 'Big Fun' hardly constitutes a re-working of that track.

If 'Newpower Soul' is 'the next part of the story' after 'Exodus', then Prince lost the plot somewhere between recordings.

Each NPG album is different. The Exodus album is almost entirely Sonny T. I think? singing with Prince's voice joined in harmony or digitally altered.

The Goldnigga album is mostly Tony M singing?, with Prince occasionally taking the lead but not in an obviously Princey way. It's worth getting but I don't play it too often, I think the segues are even more intrusive in this album.

The New Power Soul album just sounds like a Prince album with him singing every song.

As far as input, I'm sure Prince inputted a huge amount to the Exodus and Goldnigga albums, writing all the material but perhaps allowing the NPG to play some of the music, but was kind of hiding behind the sofa giggling, like it was an outlet for his mischievous side.

New Power Soul sounds nothing like Exodus to me and I can't see it as some sort of sequel, anymore than any Prince album is a sequel to another...
