Does anyone else find it a TAD bit hypocritical that Prince states over and over how he doesnt wnat to live in the past and whines about his fans that want him to play the hits and "it's not 1984" balh, blah, blah,.....
But NOW hes willing and able to open the Grammys with a Purple Rain melody, has a "Hits" tour waiting to go and sings about how cool it was "back in the day" in "Reflection", and "Musicology" is all about how better music was back then, with E,W&F, James and Sly!!! And for a guy who, circa, 1988, a cover song was a rare thing, now does almost entire shows of old, played out songs like Brick House!...I wish Tavis had called him on that, but hes too much of a fan and was too busy kissing his ass. Dont get me wrong, I really love "Reflection", and "Musicology" was pretty cool too...But he is not blazing a trail of "New" anymore and seems to live in the past now more than ever... But for him its ok and for his fans its not??? We would like more new music in tours than I think he realizes. Uh, oh...i can feel Prince putting on his Wondermask....I gotta go! Purplehead | |

I understand that statement...but I don't agree. I understand Prince has "grown" I don't want the same Prince as then...what I loved about him and the music was his ability to "create new, moving music" Since, 96 the music has been "stale" to me. I know alot of ppl that feel the same. And I know some ppl that don't agree with me at all and LOVE everything Prince has ever done. I'm not one of those ppl. I want Prince to excite me again..stop it with the "greatest hits" crap...stop with the conformist attitude...Stop preaching to everyone...Stop suing his fanbase...stop making un-exciting, boring music...and get back to making the music he made before "the change". My tastes haven't changed. I remember when LoveSexy came out...I LOVED it...still one of the best..imo. I remembered hardcore fans back then HATING it..and completely giving up on him. I loved it because it was NEW and HONEST....that is what I've always loved about Prince... So..if me not liking the past 9 years a reflection of me and my taste, then so be it...but it's just your opinion. I'm passionate about the old music...always will be. I just want that feeling again. | |

moderatorYou see Im one of those Naysayer people (or so Im told) that will quite openly say that I dont think Prince is as good as he used to be...but Ive always wondered to myself what it is that makes me feel that - then it hit me.
You see - you listen to your least favourite Prince album from back in the day and then listen to the newer stuff...what do you hear? Prince used to spen time on his old stuff, how many layers can you hear, how many different bits an pieces dis he sprinkle in here and there, if you listen hard enough and long enough to the song and background bits it starts to sound differently to when you first heard it. Now it just seems to be - bang , song starts, drum a bit, lyrics, simple song and off we go - finished. Grante dthere have been some songs not like that but tehy are the ones that remind me of the old Prince - Songs like Supercute, U make My Sunshine,High have something that Northside and Vavoom dont. The attention to detail has gone and it comes across as if prince is bored but doesnt know what else to do. | |
