Robyne Robinson of KMSP talks about Prince

Robyne Robinson, a news anchorwoman (and well known Prince fan!) for Mpls/St. Paul's KMSP-TV, filled in today on a local radio station's morning show.

She talked a bit about Prince and the various interviews she's done with him over the years and also told a story about how one of her interivews with him came to be.

She said she'd met Mayte at some function, and Mayte brought up possibly doing an interview w/her to generate publicity for Mayte's - then in existence - new dance company. Robyne said it a took a bit to hammer out all the details regarding the interview insofar as what could or couldn't be discussed or asked about, but in the end the interview went really, really well and Mayte was very happy with it.

Some time later, Robin said she either ran into Prince somewhere or he called her up on the phone (I'm sorry I can't remember exactly which...) and Prince said to her, "You were nice to my wife. Want to do an interview with me?"

Robyne said she said "OF COURSE" immediately and, being the big P fan she is, was thrilled with the offer. biggrin She said she later did a 2 hour interview with him.

Just thought I'd pass this along. I love a good Prince anecdote myself. smile

she's on channel 9, but she does the 9 o'clock news now...i miss "the buzz", i always liked those segments. sad it broke the monotony of the typical dredge of channel 9's newscasts....that, and robyne always had some news about prince.

I saw her at the performance on the last night of the 2000 Celly.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Whoops, I should have mentioned that..

She was on 104.1 FM, the 80s station. She was filling in for Lisa Wright, the usual morning host, and I think she's supposed to be on there again tomorrow morning too.

I miss "The Buzz" too.

Robyne said that she actually had wanted to be an art major in college or something creative like that but her parents didn't like that idea and made her go for mass communications instead. She said "The Buzz" gave her the opportunity to stay in touch with the local arts and music community and be around her first love, so she also misses being able to do that segment.

I think they should bring The Buzz back and either cut down on the length of their "investigative" stories or one of the neverending sports related segments/stories. I know people up here love their sports but I guess I'm in the minority. confused I'd rather see a little more local arts/music coverage than yet another interview with yet another local high school sports hero.
