"Journey 2 The Center Of Ur Heart"

Why oh why was this not included on "Emancipation" ??

It's such a superb ballad. The melody is so sweet and
the words are very nice and subtle.

I can think of at least half a dozen songs on the set
that could have easily been replaced with this one.

Oh yes, it's a good one. IMO Emancipation was let down by just a handful of crap songs. Just a few changes would have made a huge difference, and Journey 2 The Center of Ur Heart would be one of them.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

It would've fit so perfectly on disk two. It's really hard to believe that he axed this one. Gorgeous song.

This thread got me in the mood - I'm listening to a bunch of Emancipation outtakes now - and this song is playing. It would have fit perfectly on disc 2 - perhaps a little too perfectly, if you know what I'm saying...

I quite like it, there's a lot of dead wood on Disc 2, it could have replaced several songs on there.

Ok, you got a point there, but please keep in mind that
Prince's version is only a demo take.

Once he'd have worked on it for a bit longer it would
have been outstanding.

I'm not surprised at all that he dug it up two years
later and gave it to Chaka.

It's def one of those songs that deserved to be heard.

No, no, no, IstenSzek, you hot, dirty man, you. no no no! That is no demo. That is Prince's version as he originally intended to release it on the '95 Emancipation album while still under contract with WB. biggrin

Whaaa?!

What else was supposed to be on this WB Emancipation set from '95? I don't know anything about this!

Slave 2 The System
New World
Slave
2020
Feelgood
Right Back Here In My Arms
Journey 2 The Center Of Your Heart
Eye Am The DJ
(Excuse Me Is This) Goodbye
Emancipation

...but not necessarily in that order, as Prince changed the track list a few times. biggrin

Anyways, a reversed case of Prince/Chaka is that I think his original version of Don't Talk 2 Strangers is superior to Chaka's overblown version. nod

how it and Goodbye and She Gave Her Angels got left off, and things like White Mansion and Get Yo Groove On and Da Da Da made it on baffles me.

If She Gave Her Angels alone had been placed on Emancipation, I would love that album 50x more than I do now.
