is prince really better than????

i know this has come up before, but i never got any thing out of it.

i always have people telling me MJ is better than prince, but i think this isn't so, prince can dance like MJ, and he can perform as good as MJ ONCE did, but i think prince songs just have a meening, and emotions, where MJ song are just wrote like normal pop songs!

i have to say prince is a better live act than MJ, but MJ has sold more singles and i dnt know about albums?? and i know MJ is very pop cause, prince dont always want to be in the limelight, but i also fink prince sells music for he fans, and for the love of music, where as mj i think does it for money!!

but i just have to get one thing straight, who is better, not cause u say so, because its true!! who is better prince or MJ??

Andy do u want to know if Prince is better than MJ or if he was more popular than MJ?? You asked two completely different questions. As for the former that answer is obvious,, Prince is better.

Now for the latter, yes Prince was HUGE in the 80's but I still think MJ and his bubblegum songs were better known by the masses and got more air play.

start rant here

Can we put a stop to this once and for all. I am fed up reading about comparisons. It is like comparing bloody tennis with swimming, two entirely different things.

The only things these two have in common is that they are both male!

...hmmm, not really.

MJ is the icon of 80's pop, he's always edged out Prince, especially in the early 80's after the Motown performance where he just brought the moonwalk outta nowhere. (I still remember watching it on delayed telecast in Europe.)

Prince gained credibility in the late 80's with his live performances, and after the Wembly sellout shows in England he reached the top.

Prince is the greatest musician, overall better songs and albums and yes-live performances as well, MJ on the other hand has a few great songs and great choreography. He's probably the greatest impact entertainer but he's not a musician. That's y U cannot compare them.

This P vs MJ thing has been going on since the beginning of their careers. It's a total waste of time, The same goes 4 all other Top500 album polls and the like. The one thing about music is that it should not be ranked or categorised -it will always reach its audience in many different levels and therefore it will be received differently by everyone.

The bottom line is that if it moves U or gets U moving -it's great! If not, then give it merit for its artistic qualities(if it has any).

so just get Ur groove on and press "play"
-"If U don't like,
what U see here
-get the FUNK out."

Outta NOWHERE Huh??? Well How about the "Backslide" being on Soul Train in 1979 done by the group Electric Boogaloo.(( NOT the dance line by some unknown dancer.. BUT an actually act!)

HOW amazing is it to rip off a dance move that was already on TV??? years & years before?

Just because it "amazed" the white public doesn't make it amazing! rolleyes

MAN o MAN do I wish the Internet was around back in the early 80's.. That SAME NIGHT I bet there would be sooo many clips of the OTHER Artist doing "The Moonwalk" 4 years before!

Fast Forward to 1999: Would it be amazing if someone did a interesting/amazing dance move on TV ..& then in 2004 someone else did that same exact dance move!! Also have that as probably #1 Reason you know of that second performer??

HOW is this amazing? WHY is it???

Also is it "amazing" to repeat that same moment you did for 20 years? same clothes, same glove, same dance move YOU originally ripped off?

You dont see Madonna running around for 20 years where her "Material Girl" clothes.

Here is some History for you! HERE is a bunch of Dancers talking about "The Moonwalk" atleast 4 years before MJ blew away White America by stealing this Move! (Only reason I say steal is because the guy promotes his whole career around it afterwards and never says he didn't make it up!)

***There is a whole generation that has NO clue about their Hip Hop History! rolleyes

"By the time the Harlem Pop Lockers were formed, the Electric Boogie had added the 'Float' move. The Back Float or 'Moon Walk' was first made famous by James Brown, then Jeffrey Daniels of Shalimar in the early 80's, and most memorably by Michael Jackson. In truth, it was Jeffrey Daniels dancing on the television show 'Soul Train' that was most responsible for its success."

http://rap.about.com/gi/d...ctric.html

"In between his studies, his older brother showed him a dance form that was labeled in NY "electric boogie." Brian found out that his brother's version was really the authentic style that started the craze of the so called "moonwalk" from Michael Jackson, which was originally called "the backslide" 10 years before. This dance style was called Boogaloo. This dance style was founded by Boogaloo Sam, from California, and started in the mid 70s."

http://www.bwydance.com/f...rian.shtml

""Antoine "DOC" Judkins has been a performer for most of his life. Born and raised in Bronx, where as a teenager began developing his craft unknowingly through the culture of HIP-HOP. The Four Elements (Djing, Mceeing, Dancing, Graffitti) introduced him to different forms of expression. He found his "niche" one day, watching a friend's cousin from Philadelphia perform a series of movements that included a "Backslide" (moonwalk). He was told the dance was called "The Electric BoogaLoo". A week later, he turned on T.V. to discover a dance show called "Soul Train", where some of the dancers did these same moves."

Ha! You called him out before I did! I'm still amazed at the people who still think that MJ created the "moonwalk." He might have named it that (I'm not sure) but I sure remember it being done on Soul Train long before MJ did it--especially by Jeffrey Daniel, who later became a member of Shalamar, and probably some other dancers as well!

I was around 7ys old at the time and had not seen Soul Train but believe me, almost every kid(in europe) talked about that move or how how scary was the thriller videoclip...

and no I'm not claiming he created the move or anything. He was just singing then...

...and yes I've seen the older footage and let me tell ya MJ still does it better.

... Anyway, today Prince prevails as an artist and musician and that's all that matters 2 me.

I think Prince and MJ are two totally different persons.. since I'm not really a MJ fan.. But have you ever seen MJ pick up a guitar, bass or play drums or anything else Prince plays?.. as somebody else said I also think that Prince's songs are more emotional..Prince vs. Mj?

MJ's heyday was done way before Prince's was, I feel. Off The Wall is the only decent MJ album, because he wasn't about to lose the plot then. Thriller was a great pop album too...and if "Purple Rain" is it's counterpart, I say PR is less annoying, but maybe that's because it got nowhere near as much airplay.

Look at the longevity of Prince and MJ. If MJ and Prince both released an album tomorrow, I'd trust buying Prince's record more. Even though Prince did lose the plot with all the name changes and religious awakenings etc, atleast he always kept creative control. He's a more motivated musician, so much so that he now insists on independently releasing his music. MJ is just a desperate sellout now, working with all these generic rnb producers etc in an urgent attempt to keep up with the times...whereas Prince hasn't really sold out. He knew damn well that an instrumental new-age jazz album wouldn't sell, but he made it anyway, and more power to him.

Prince is the better artist overall.

I feel u!

But as for naming it "The Moonwalk" actually that was the name of a TOTALLY Different Dance Move back then.

The Moonwalk is when you floated in a circle and kept moving around in a circle. (sorta like how you do the "backslide" backwards.. but just do it in a circle)

Thats what "The Moonwalk" was always for 10 years before MJ did the "Backslide" for the white world on Motown 25.
