Can u see Purple Rain as a musical in your mind? Can you imagine the movie script being adapted as a musical? Of course with Prince and all of his co-stars as actors...same wardrobe...same motorcycle...it's probably the (instrumental) movie score that made me visualize it.

On his CD Roll With the New, Chris Rock has a little skit regarding this exact subject.

There are rumours of a Purple Rain stage musical - and why not?
In the UK we have a Queen musical "We Will Rock You" which has been a massive success. Also just about to open is a Rod Stewart musical!!! Both have the book written by successful British scriptwriter/playright/author/comedian Ben Elton On top of that is Mama Mia the Abba musical - also a massive success. Personally (as a Prince fan) I think Purple Rain could be made to work very well on stage. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I think 'Purple Rain' will make a fine musical. They took "Saturday Night Fever" and turned it into a hit musical, even adding some new songs.I wonder if Prince will add a few new songs to the 'Purple Rain' stage musical?

No.
But I can see 'Graffiti Bridge' being converted into a fine musical. In fact, the whole feel of 'Graffiti Bridge' would have fitted a musical format perfectly. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

Yeah when Billy Sparks bursts into the dressing room singing, "This is a business motherfucker." I would laugh.

And if they were to find a replica of Lake Minnetonka for an Apollonia understudy to jump into I would be very impressed indeed . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
