Re-recorded medley of hits

i saw this on a compilation tape ...it is a video medley...
of Prince's hits...but the videos r from the mid-late 90s...
& p is lip-synching 2 re-recorded versions of his hits.
it lasts for about 10-15 minutes.

what's the deal behind this? & also was it released in just an audio format?
what was the video made 4 specifically?

that was the "Purple Medley". It was released as a single in
1995 and had 3 tracks;

1. Purple Medley (edit) (3:14)
2. Purple Medley (11:00)
3. Kirk J's B Sides Remix (7:00)

There was a video made for the Purple Medley, but it was
never officially released for purchase. It was originally created
for Prince to use as an 'Intro video' for the Gold Experience
tour.

It's very strange.
Prince is lip-synching to songs like 'If i was your girlfriend', 'Love Bizarre', 'Sexy Dancer' and 'Let's work'
Apparantly, he was re-recording his entire back catalogue around this time
