Aladdin DVD on BET

I don't keep up too much with Prince's recent music so help me out here.
I was watching Midnight Love on BET and I saw some kind of recent performance by Prince, if anyone else has seen it, is this the Aladdin show? if so it looks really weird because it looks like some sort of bootleg recording, my 5 year old nephew could have done better than that..

falloff

Seriously though, at the beginning of the dvd, there is a little blurb about Prince throwing a party and 4,000 people crashing it. One of the "crashers" taped the show, hence the "questionable" quality.

I can see the picture. I can hear the sound. Could it have been better? I guess. Since I'm not savvy on the technicalities of filming, I wouldn't begin to criticize it.

I just look at it as a nice momento of the show I went to. Whenever I want to re-live the show, I just put on the DVD.
I'm firmly planted in denial

the problem is it should be perfect . story ended.if you did something sub-standard at work you'd be questioned no ?
if prince had released it perfect quality there would be no debate at all ! apart from the track list ofcourse, evey one has they're live favourites.

I agree.

I don't buy into the whole idea that we are 'lucky enough' to even be allowed to purchase this dvd. When Fleetwood Mac released 'The Dance', they were not at a peak in popularity and they still released a quality video of that performance. The same goes for most performers. The art direction of a dvd should not eclipse its quality standard. I've seen a music video from Bon Jovi in which they gave the fans cameras and allowed them to tape a show. They then used the bits to make a music video for some single, back in the day. That music video was way better than the quality of 'Live at the Aladdin'. Prince's vision could have been executed with better standards.

Oh well, at the end of the day it is still only a dvd and not the end of the world.

This is all very funny to me. Sanna Hamri directed this video. In the industry she is best known as an editor ( many Hype Williams and Philip Atwell (Dr. Dre) videos. She has in the past two years moved her career into directing. Song Cry for Jay Z and Common's joint with Mary J Blige.(forgot the name) as well as India.Arie. Rumor had it that Prince wanted to work with her for awhile and I guess this is the first foray into a collaboration. Unfortnately the quality of the video overshadows the performance somewhat but to me this a well edited piece. I think he was giving her shot but with limited resources. We've met before and have a mutual friend so I'm trying to get to the real deal behind the video.

i thought the DVD was 10/10. I dont understand people these days. Maybe they're talkin about a bootleg per4mance because the Aladdin dvd was better than the Purple Rain live move at all costs.

No, the DVD is not poor quality in my opinion. Do you think people on this site are spending their money on this thing do to blind devotion?. I think a lot of people went to the ONA concerts and wanted to have concert footage in their collection. The average person who is not a tech nerd does not care about the technical aspects of the DVD. Most consumers who, are Prince fans care about the music and the performance.

People on this site made this DVD out to unwatchable and that is not the case. I think Prince wanted the DVD to have a bootlegg look due to so many fans buying bootlegg concert footage anyway. Therefore, you have a official Prince sanctioned bootlegg tape. End of story.
