Prince gave songs to Linda Layton of Beats Int'l...

but who is Linda Layton? Does she still perform? This was from an article I recently found from 1990. According to the article, he gave 3 songs to her... and I've never heard of this again.

Anyone know anything about his or if she is still around?

She was the front female vocal with an outfit called BEATS INTERNATIONAL back in the early 90's ( I think), the band included Fat Boy Slim (Norman Cook), and sampled many a fine bassline/tune..most famously they had a hit with 'Just Be Good To Me' which sampled a really well known bassline from a Clash song.

The one and only album they ever released as a band included their version of DO ME BABY... that was the only connexion I recall they had with P.

Hope that helps a bit - by the way I used to have their CD, and the music was pretty poor to be honest, and their version of DMB was very over-produced and not a patch n the original or that of Melissa Morgan.

I seem to remember she had a solo album out later and Prince did write something on it, but can't remember what now.

I had the Beats International album around about 1990. They had a number one in the UK with 'Dub Be Good To Me' which wa a cover of the SOS Band's Just Be Good To Me.

The female singer was Lindy Layton and she wasn't that strong vocally. The album was good in it's day but has not aged well. Kind of a side project for Norman Cook after The Housemartins broke up.

From memory, I think The Beats Int'l CD was called Let Them Eat Bingo.

I don't think Do Me Baby was on the album. Definitely not on my copy anyway, I'd have remembered that!
