do you have any favorite moments of prince?

do you have any favorite moments of prince's-either from
performance videos or the records (cd's) themselves?

the ones that come to mind just before i head off to work
are these:
1. the moment in the "little red corvette video (1982)
when dez plays the guitar solo and p does some sharp james
brown moves-in a trenchcoat & heels! mannn i dug that!!!
2. in the purple rain movie-when he's killing appollonia
(softly) doing the 'i want you" part in the beautiful ones.
what a way to tear a girl's heart out,huh?

3.in Pink cashemere...the clare fischer crescendo of strings
just before p's beautiful guitar solo slides in front & center (what a nice set up!)
4.prince's words at the coda (fade) of HCUDCMA.
"why on earth can you ...you know i don't like to be alone!'

damnnn beg brotha beg! (haha) really excellent singing

and last but not least (for y'all who have seen the 1984
p-rain warehouse rehearsal footage)

prince & the revolution's powerful takes at e-city &
something in the water...lord have mercy...in my book
p's most inspired rock guitar work with the HOhner/telecaster guitar! slammin..."must be something in
the water never HIT me like this!

those are just the ones i can think of as i leave for
work...peace out everybody...youngca

The video for "America" live in Nice, is kind of raw and funky. Prince gets a bit wild in it...

I love all Prince's performances where he goes absolutely WILD and adds some charm, cheekiness & sex to the mix.

These are the moments I love..."Alphabet St." during Lovesexy...Prince just LOOKED like he was down with his BAAAD self...and he and Sheila shared a sweet moment when he stared at her. She broke into a laugh, couldn't contain herself! Classic!

Another moment which sticks in my mind is when he performed "Irresistible Bitch"/"Possessed" during the Purple Rain '85 video...just moody and funky...the first time I saw it I had to turn it up and DANCE!

I know there's TONS more I haven't seen - like the Parade shows...sho' nuff some classic moments there with Sheila guesting on stage.

booty!

Without a doubt my favourite moment is Forever In My Life at the end of the Sign 'o' the Times movie. Particularly at the end of the song, "I gotta tell ya! I gotta tell ya! I gotta tell ya! Tell ya! Tell ya! Tell ya! Tell ya!...Alllright!

Goosebumps just thinkin' about it

I was watching some of Purple Rain yesterday and loved P's encore of I Would Die 4U and Baby I'm a Star at the end. It's moments like those that we're all grateful to experience musical geniuses like him.

jason...good choices!

a few more that i thought about since last night:
"i love the way the keyboard "swings" in DELIRIOUS.
prince is the only musician who can do what is really a
rockabilly tune that's KICKS butt. and the have the pre-
domiant instrument be the keyboard instead of guitar.

the vocals in ITS gonna be lonely...particularly the ones
in the latter segment of the tune. (all of those octaves)
"gonna be lonely...!!!"

in the 12 inch of LET's Work...p's guitar comes out
front & center...wooowww!!!

damn U...the climbing octave vocal part...from the deep
to the high ('all i gotta say is that my psychedelic
shouts...") so cool...so effortlessly. damnnn...

the QUESTIon OF U...everything he plays does it for me in
this underrated gem from GB. "nice spacey blues guitar.

legrind...relentlous groove...so its a one chorder funk
work-out...but i digs da mess outta of it...
i likes the part where he say to BOni..."not yet boni!"
nasty...nasty nasty...

dirty mind...for fink's hard to get out of my mind keyboard
riff...and the video...prince looks as ODD as you can get
-trenchcoat,bikini briefs,leg warmers,heels,,,lisa looks
trashy (cute as hell, too) still the performance is
intoxicating...(youngca)

just some that i remember right at this minute.

A favorite moment for me is:

A scene from under the Cherry Moon when he and Jerome are talking about why Mary wouldn't like the other. And Prince says Butterscoth, Chocolate. the faces that those two make cracks me up.

Another is when him and Mayte did the VH 1 fashion show and he sang P. Control. He looked sooo damn hot I coud not stand that.

Another is when he did an apperance on the Muppett show. He was so cute. And they had a puppet of him that sang Starfish and Coffee.

My favorite scene from "UTCM" is at Mary's birthday party, when she first catches sight of Christopher. The camera zooms in on him in that outfit, with that spit-curl-perfect hair...and the drama-queen look he throws just makes it for me! Love it.

It has to be a clip I saw from American Bandstand of Prince, and he was asked how many instruments he could play. guitar Prince looked up and thought about it for a few moments, and said "About a thousand." CLASSIC!!! How many other artists can honestly say the same thing? headbang

But you know, it's just the little things that Prince did that justified his cool factor. Like in the Uptown video, he tosses the mike into the camera's direction and, like a boomerang, it comes back to him. That was sooo cool.

gotta be the club show in Boston '97... it was freezing cold and the news was reporting from the line waiting to get inside that night, lol. lets just say we weren't in the best mood..

while jamming, he went into a version of 'Johnny' and started doing the bit where he raised his arm, bit by bit (symbolizing 'johnny' getting hard) and I did it right in sync with him.. my girlfriend and I were maybe 3 heads from the stage just to his left. He looks at me and nods, then makes a face, gesturing to the rest of the crowd like "what's up with the rest of these chumps", lol... then comes back to me.. classic.

LOL... my girlfriend's first show and she was beside herself watching the little rapport we seemed to have... that was tight..headbang

Too many to mention but some that really stand out are:

The Purple Rain warehouse rehearsal where he laughs at Wendy jumping up and down and imitates her

The Love Bizarre performance during the Sheila E. live video

The America video

The look he gives Wendy during the Kiss video

When he asked people during the soundcheck in London last year what we called a sweater, someone shouted out "jumper", and he said "awight vis iz me jumper" in his best Dick-Van-Dyke accent.

The dancing in Housequake on the SOTT video...

etc etc etc etc

rico...i forgot about him imitating wendy in the

one little interesting thing on this tape is how "serious"
mark & wendy are during the rehearsal.
prince is fairly "lively"...he jokes with bobby z and fink
here and there.

cool performance video.

My Absolute favorites:

*the I would die 4 U/Baby I'm a Star encore at the end of "Purple Rain"

*In the video 4 When Doves Cry, the scene during the second verse where it shows him and Apples playing in the field

*During the Mountains video outtakes, where Prince and Jerome share a hug right b4 the first chorus. They reminded me so much of me and my brother on that part.

*The Look shared between him and Sheila and the LoveSexy concert during "Alphabet St.", where she busts out laughing at him.

*Nude Tour Tokyo, where at the beggining of "Baby I'm A Star", Prince does the spits with the microphone. He goes down and put the stand between his legs, comes up, goes down and points it towards the crowd, comes up, goes down and puts it between his legs again. It doesn't SOUND 2 exciting, but SEEING it is AMAZING!!

*Controversy Tour Houston '81-When Prince is doing "Private Joy", and right in the middle, he stops it and the band goes in2 "Jack U Off", because the latter wasn't fast enough.

*Parade SanFrancisco, Prince goes in2 the audience 2 get some phone numbers during Eric Leeds' sax solo on "Mutiny". Apparently Jerome was trying 2 get some 2, but Prince shut it down when he yelled "Eric, shut the fuck up", which was the band's cue 2 bring the song back in. So Prince stops the band on the one, and asks Jerome what he wants 2 do since he has a couple of empty spaces on the notebook paper. As soon as Jerome got the first words out his mouth, Prince yells "GOOD GAWD!!", and the band comes back in, cutting Jerome off. He stops them on the one again, and says "I'm sorry I didn't let U talk,go ahead...what U wanna do?" Jerome goes 2 talk again, and Prince yells "GOOD GAWD!!" That is 2 funny listening 2 it!

mindbells...you of the ones you mentioned sound FASCINATIng!

the LOve bizarre clip (at the end of romance 1600 video)
is a scream, man! prince yells: we gonna chop down that oak
tree ...we got a new dance..its called the wooden leg!"

everybody doing it (sheila & prince...and jerome...what a
sight!)
the looks shared between prince and sheila are priceless.

another fave moment is in the SOOT movie when prince says
"everybody do the detroit crawl! "and he gets down and does
this cool ass dance...i think CAT cheats and does something
else!
the brotha does his s**t so smooth and cool ..you say to
yourself...is mj really a better dancer than prince?

i like the look of admiration he flashes at MIles during the
1987 performance at paisley park...miles is so DAMN cool
its too much. prince's grin tells you how honored he is
to have MIles up there with the band.

what a great performance.
i wish the two of them would have gotten to do an album
together. oh well...

SECONDED! Props 2 YOU Youngca wink
Also the Parade birthday special where he casually saunters out in his bright yella suit, and jams the hell outta Controversy - then heads over 2 the Hammond and plays the shit outta it. Then (like THAT wasnt enough!) heads back 2 centre stage and does the freakiest, fOnkiest dance EVA! (Like it's so bad it's good, but the brotha is SO in2 it, it's infectious!)
I was like: woot!
lol

* "Back off them mics, chil'ren..." as Forever in my Life begins to morph into IT

on Sign of the Times video.

I tell you, before this performance I didn't like "IT" at all. It was so fast and was like the montonously obligatory naughty song he just threw on the record so I could fast-forward through.

But then in this weird, slow, agonizing, devilish groan he's like "I think about it baby all the time, alright." But it's in the smooth "Forever" melody not the hyper "It" melody.

I was like what is he doing?

But by the time he started screeching out the words in painful wantonness, I was on the floor loving it.

He had to drop the mike it was so intense. Look at Sheila's face when he lets the mike go. She knew that was one chill moment.

Priceless.

- "Girl, you've got an ass like I've never seen ... and the ride, the ride is so smooth, you must be a limousine!"

I was 10 or 11 and my cousins and I had been listening to LITTLE RED CORVETTE all summer long. But we didn't know there were words in this line, and apparently neither did the radio stations since they didn't bleep ass.

We thought it said "Girl, yeah, ooh, ah, oh, Eee!"

Then, one day i screamed "Guys, I think he's saying something here! There are words here!" And then we deciphered it as praise of one's ass. It was a great moment.

-- The next summer, when we had "WHEN DOVES CRY" on heavy rotation we thought we could do the same with the incomprehensible cooings in the last several minutes of this song. As it turned out, there really aren't words here.

Which is cool as hell. Because we still knew each syllable of the incomprehensive grunts as if they were words and did them to music as we copied the dance steps from the video when he comes down the stairs with that bad-ass hat on.

We knew all the "huh, huh, hoo oo hooos!

Nobody, and I mean nobody, can make people sing for 3 minutes when there are no words, except Prince.

B-cologne...thanx for da props...backatcha,too!

s-rose...again...lots of cool stuff you bring up...U know
it took me a few listenings to figured out the part in
"corvette" about her ass...i think he added the little
effect on his falsetto so the parents (and radio program
directors) wouldn't decipher what he was actually saying!

let's see are there anymo' fave moments?

well...in EMALE...that cool chorus...(www.emale...its on its
on its on...)and the way he sings it is sharp.
i like the way he can switch from low baritone..to tenor and
up to high tenor/falsetto...in the same vocal line...the man's a first-class singer (a skill you overlook) until you
try to sing the songs along with him!

in the RIDE...the way the brotha says: if U wann take the
short cut...i know the way...then the GUItar cranks UP
and its all OVER!!!
damn...

the song PAPA...there's a video performance in the beautiful
girl (movie with NONA) but the song is underrated...the
subject manner is serious...i wonder if its autobiographical? i like the way he talk-sings the verses
then OUTTA nowhere...he SHOUTS out:
...SMACK...! ooo papa..smack SMACK oo papa...

its a story tune...with a graphic ending. PAPA blews himself
away ! then p says at the coda: "don't abuse children other
wise they'll end up like me!

some heavy ass lyrics.

from the ritz new york show circa 1981 with andre, dez, lisa,
fink in their new wave glory...what a funky performance!

highlights are the band jumping (dancing) and playing to
party-UP...hyperkinetic p and the band trippin' me out..

dirty mind...do it all night (a rare performance of this
gem from DM )

i'm still kicking myself for not seeing him until 1982 LIVE.
even though i was a p FAN from day 1...i was content with
playing the records..man...what was i thinking?

of course he was still GREAT in 1982...i saw him at the
AUDITorium THEATER -chi-town with v-6 and the time.

FANTAStic show! (v-6 sucked) but vanity was nice to look at
for the short time they were on!

during the lovesexy show in 88 in rosemont...a hilarious
version of BOB GEORGE (bob...ain't that a bitch) and
a classy 'BLUES IN C...(play dat blues man!)
plus 'take this beat...HEAVEN SUGAR BABY!!!

yeah there's a million fave p moments!

(if you're out there...let me see U dance!...camille 1988)

That is one of my favorites, if not my all time favorite moment of Prince!! How in the hell did I 4get that one?? Every time I watch the movie, I rewind that part so many times 2 see him do it. I can do it 2, on a good day though!!
