Purple Rain is 40 years old already! How will Purple Rain as an album stand the test of time and how will it be conceived 40 years from now? If the estate keeps his legacy alive. I would like to hear your opinion.

I listened to Thriller today, followed by Purple Rain. In my opnion Purple Rain still sounds fresh today. Thriller started to sound outdated to me. It took me by surprise as I did not listen to this album for a few years. No disrespect as I love the album. It reminded me like other albums as The Dude by Quincy Jones. Off the Wall , some albums by The Jacksons and Donna Summer. Purple Rain is 40 years later to me more 'Thrilling' and unique.

The beginning, and end part of Let's Go Crazy are still off the world, wild, fantatic, uplifting, energetic, fresh, daring, and something Prince never ever repeated again.

The long ceremonial wiggly intro, and that super wild long outtro.

And inbetween a rockabilly-esque fuck-you fun "we're all gonna die" track, that every one knows by the first second.

Rest of the album remains such a powerful great collection of trax.

I abslutely DON'T want to compare it with Thriller.

Both albums are miles aways from each other, just like both artists.

They (both albums and artists) don't deserve to be compared AT ALL.

Thirller is from '82, if you want to compare it, take "1999."

But still the same reason, impossible to compare any album.

My opinion of course.

I hope his estate promotes his music more...

I personally love Thriller I think Michael's music is as fresh as ever especially with the popularity of Thriller, Billie Jean, and Wanna Be Startin Somethin...but again those two shouldn't be compared they are two separate masterpieces. I love both albums but did anyone else hear the Purple Rain on broadway?

I agree.

A large part of Prince’s 80s sound was pretty unique… so definitely sounds less dated than a lot of music from the same era. (At least, much harder to put a date/era to).
