New Prince Movie From Black Panther Director

https://www.google.com/am...58829/amp/

I'm already 99% sure this movie is going to be crap but if it helps bring more ears to Prince's music then it can't be that bad. Hopefully it also brings more demand for his music and in turn will lead to more regular releases from the estate.

Ok so this is more of a personal taste kind of thing but as far as I'm concerned most musicals are crap. And I feel like this particular movie is going to fall into that category for me.

I'm sure the soundtrack will be great but it's going to be one of those movies where the characters start singing Prince songs out of nowhere with little or no plot related reason to be doing so. At least with something like Grease or Rocky Horror the characters are singing original songs that were written into the scenes and make some sense in the context of the scene.

But I'd love to be wrong. So fingers crossed it's good. But I'm not getting my hopes up you know?

How about you though? You thinking this might be something you'd enjoy?

Ryan Coogler is a great young filmmaker, whose resume is filled with accolades, Oscar nominations, Grammy awards, Golden Globe awards, and
great productions...if anyone is capable of pulling this off, its him...

I could actually imagine that if one strings a bunch of Prince's compositions in a particular order, then there could actually be a decent plotline!

Drama, Comedy, Romance, Heroics, even Horror biggrin

I hope you're right. This kind of project could easily have been the kind of thing just churned out for a quick buck by some no-name filmmaker straight out of film school. The fact that Ryan Coogler is involved does mean that there's a chance this could end up being quite good. So like you said, if anyone could make this a success it's probably him. But I'll approach with caution lol

Good or not, that movie has already more chances to attract new people in discovering Prince music than with a biopic.

Whitney Houston biopic flopped at the box office ( 29M$), and the Bob Marley one has decent numbers (170 M$ for a 70M budget, not so great), but wasn't apparently focused on his music. I m not sure it attracted new interest in his music.

And a Prince biopic would be automatically compared to the 155 M$ MJ biopic.

So whether it is good or not, as long as it finds its audience, it's all good and could trigger a new interest in Prince. So maybe more releases to come, etc.

The Netflix documentary is as dead as a doornail though.

is M$ shorthand for "millions"?

People already are familiar with the works of Whitney Houston and Bob Marley, though.

Prince is literally a thing where if you weren't around in 1984 you're less likely to have any familiarity the further you get away from this year.

Like no one ever heard of "Michael Jackson vs Prince," or "1980s Minneapolis Sound" or all of that musical artists' acclaim, or that weird squiggle symbol, but yeah.

Nah..Prince's status as a worldwide entertainment icon is solidified...it can easily be argued that he garners more interest and has more lasting fame and intrigue than Houston or Marley, and as much as MJ

Agreed, if someone could do a cool movie ( i hope not a real bio but more something like what Danny Boyle did with Yesterday) and that could expose more people to just the music and expand the fanbase.
Ryan Coogler has been more hit than miss so I have trust he could pull it off even tho I 'd rather hgave seen someone like Spike Lee do it because he worked with Prince sometimes.

When prince died the entire world turned purple for a moment. Prince was huge and as a MJ fan I dare say ever more iconic and big as MJ was.
