Toy Box maybe one of the most underrated prince songs ever, to be honest. it's got that quintessential weirdo slant to it. those icy synths just sort of doing that demented line throughout, the pitched down vox echoing everything.
"truth is all that matters in the month of saturdays when you're 17..."

...and if anyone had any doubts about Prince's bass playing, listen to this one! "Whatever skin we're in

Toy Box
Blue Limousine
17 Days
All basically the same hook and song. " don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r." |

“Toy Box” should have been the first single from Sheila’s Romance 1600 album. It’s a kickass track and the best song on that album, imo. |

Yaaahhhh, I would disagree. Only because it just comes across as super cringy with the "the black one! ARRRGGGG!" talk. This heifer ain't James Brown.
For me, the strong songs were "Yellow," "A Love Bizarre," "Sister Fate," and maybe an edited "Dear Michaelangelo."
I love when Prince does that quasi-jazzy thing like he did with "Courtin' Time," or "Yellow." That could've been a fun video.
The rest of that album is echoy, clanky, noisy, and unimpressive. Sheila E. was her best Paisley Park record.

I'm thinking they could have done a single edit that removes that part from the song the rest of the song is superb. That's an addictive groove.

I totally agree. This was her strongest, most consistent album. There were no gimmicks,no big 'movie' concepts, just a bunch of great tunes with no filler."Faded Photographs" should have been a major pop hit single. |

That song is so good.
I'm not a huge fan of "One Day" or "Pride and the Passion." So if you took out those songs, each side is an EP unto itself, especially side A.
Wednesday Like A River
Hold Me
Faded Photographs
Koo Koo
Boy's Club
Soul Salsa
Hon E Man
Love On A Blue Train
Those are like a 2-CD maxi single or something. But yeah, as a whole, it's her most consistent album. " don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r." |

Quite well put into words. It's a bit like its artwork. Trying to go through the credits it's a mess with that background image. It's not that it's not cool, it's just... messy.

It's an interesting observation because they both alleged how close they were, yet that album was just 50% good. I don't know if he was so busy with the tour and recording or whatever that he lacked the focus to give her a good sophomore album. But something lacked somewhere.

Yes,the album does seems rushed. With more time and more focus,I think it would have been much better. |

Nothing comes close to A Love Bizarre - this song is pure groove genius, and Toy Box fades in comparison !! |

that little out of tune organ at 2:55 "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972) |

No deviation between chorus & verse. TMBGITW does the same thing. And once you notice, it becomes a bit lazy blah blah blah |

Yep. Like the America 12". One of the rare cases when halfway through it you're bored out of your skull having a look to see how much's left to reach the runout groove. |

@ psyche2 & SoulAlive:
i could understand what you are both saying if it were just loops, but there are so many fascinating details within both of those songs' running times'.
