I find it oddly fascinating that we now hear stories of how gracious he was, how hospitable to some guests but at the same time we get stores of how aloof and down right rude he was. I remember in Owen's book, he somehow got in to one of those Hotel Rio shows in Las Vegas, Prince sees him but barely acknowledges. My question to Owen is, how does he explain the behaviour? What would be the explanation? Why would Prince not be interested in seeing someone so pivotal, someone who helped him so much. I recall in the book Owen descirbing how he and his wife, sharing their home to a teen prodigy. I mean, that's not normal. How did Prince not feel some level of indebtedness?

You may be right but I have heard of stories where he is warm to past associates. Eric Leeds explained how Prince , upon seeing him after many years, hugged him at some club in MN. |

Thanks for posting to request questions to put to Owen. It’ll be great to hear his insights. I’ve got a couple of queries, 1) When sharing a house with Prince during the recording of the For You album, were there any instances when Owen accidentally walked in on Prince practising and developing a song, and if so does he remember what Prince’s reaction was. I’m wondering if there were any moments like Samuel Coleridge writing Kubla Khan and being interrupted by a person from Porlock? 2) in a previous podcast with Dr Funkenberry that Owen and Tommy Vicari were on, Tommy mentioned going to the movies with Prince to watch Star Wars. This must have been when it was first out. Does Owen remember Prince’s reaction to the film. There may or may not be something coming! |

Perhaps, because of Prince's reluctance to speak publicly, we are left only with one person's version of events. I feel this is also true for many band member accounts. He was their boss and he was paying then. He called the shots. I don't know many people who don't feel wronged by their employer. Sometimes the boss is in the wrong, but we are often a little less inclined to admit that a boss gets pissed when we are not performing You'll never know a girl called Nikki and you'll never find Erotic City |

Another question suggestion: A For You Super Deluxe Edition would be a very interesting release. Would Owen Husney consider working with the Prince Estate on such a thing and is there anything from that period that he’d like to be on it? And has he held onto some demo type tapes from that period that might be of interest - if so, would he like to share some details? There may or may not be something coming! |

From all the comments I’ve heard Owen talk about Prince there is nothing but respect and love. However, was there any resentment at the time when management changed to Cavallo, Rufallo and Fargnoli? Or did Owen support and still help with that that transition? In a previous Q&A, Owen Husney mentioned that “Prince would record on my home tape recorder and leave cassettes for me to listen to that would blow me away. No one has ever heard these recordings and I keep them under tight wraps.” Has the estate or Duane Tudahl ever approached Owen to discuss releasing some of that stuff or at least digitising for the future, or the other way round? We’d love to hear it. Did you ever get invited to Prince shows, later in his and your lives, and did you manage to have any sort of conversation? I think I heard you went to some of the LA Forum shows, which would have been in 2010. Working with Prince was a small proportion of your career in the music biz. You’ve spent time working with some other greats and likely some near misses. Who else has Owen enjoyed working with, and are there any other artists that he is surprised didn’t have more success? There may or may not be something coming! |
