Countdown to hopefully Purple Rain SDE announcement? Judging by previous announcements of SDE which somewhat follow the original album release date, I’m thinking an April 2024 announcement of an SDE seeing how the original album was release in late June 2024?? Wishful thinking! |

None of us is getting any younger.
The Deluxe edition was great, but I like my Deluxe editions SUPER SIZED and massively overpriced, so bring on some stuff from the vault we already heard, a 7" edit of Take Me With U and a 3000-page booklet of stuff I'll look at maybe twice just so I can possibly hear When Doves Cry with the bass line still in it. +e |

There were leaks and photos of D&P SDE months and months before even an official announcement. We are far from that concerning PR SDE. |

All the articles came out around August 24, 2023 and it was ultimately released on October 27 so I was just thinking since the Purple Rain album was originally released June 25, 1984 seems like going by that previous pattern of a two month lead time that at least an announcement would be made of a super deluxe sometime in April 2024 ?? Pure hope and speculation. |

The Purple Rain DE was already released a few years ago - only a vinyl edtition was missing. My guess is there will be a Deluxe vinyl edition of it with minor changes - minus the Live album which was released seperately last year already. If the plan was to do a SDE they would have hold the LIve content back! It makes no sense to make a "new" Deluxe Edition, people already bought it. Maybe a special edition of the movie on blueray and a Record Store Day special Edition (color Vinyl) will come - but no new SDE will be released is my guess. |

I think they will release something from the Purple Rain era like the First Avenue 83 concert as part of a deluxe set but I'm not sure there is any PR SDE ready. On the other hand, there's no leaked photos of any deluxe set either so I'm not sure what they're planning for the PR 40th anniversary. I still think is the next SDE, maybe by the end of 2024.[Edited 12/15/23 15:56pm] U are now an official member of the New Power Generation

We do. The mastering is done so poorly. I don't care if someone from Bernie Grundman did the mastering, it stinks. On a stereo, I can't even get through When Doves Cry because it's so brickwalled and fatiguing.
And why the hell is the beginnng of "Erotic City" sounding like the tape got chewed up????
What I'd love is a bigger box. Kevin Gray brought it to remaster it all. Hopefully restore "Erotic City" as it's such a fan favorite.
In addition to all the stuff the one eight years ago came with, I'd add:
The Time "Ice Cream Castles" (remastered with bonus track "Tricky") Apollonia 6 album remastered with single versions, 12" version on a bonus disc Dez Dickerson "Modernaire" officially released 12"

Can't remember exactly what was written on the sticker, but was Obviously remastered. And we all know they have the unreleased material of that album + the photos + the notes and archivals already ready for that album. So, if PR has to be delayed for whatever reasons, they could easily pick this one instead. Logically...bu that new estate is made of dumass people,so who knows. |
