PURPLE RAIN LIVE in Atlanta video....

A few months ago I posted if anybody else has ever seen any other Purple Rain Live vids besides the Syracuse NY concert and yesterday I was lucky enough to get my hands on a video from Atlanta from the same tour...It's interesting to see the differences and similarities to the officially released show and this one...

Yeah, it's the same with bootlegs, i got the Purple Rain show from Miami a few months back and thought the same. Also, one thing i noticed from all the ONA boots last year Prince isn't as spontaneous as i thought he was.

Do you mean video or CD boots for one night alone? I flew out to Arizona and saw ONA last April and that show was okay IMO but when I saw him in Vegas he rocked...maybe cuz it was the last show or he just has more spunk at different venues...

CD boots. All the european shows, his repertoire, his little jokes with the audience seemed very 'samey' to me.

i found that kind of disappointing.

I love the Atlanta video and what cracks me up is Prince is so OFF that night. Missing cues, almost hitting Wendy with his guitar during Let's Go Crazy, tripping and almost falling down lol and still putting on a great show.
Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

I disagree. He has a certain "repertoire" for the ONA shows but there are variations (Money Don't Matter, Bambi, Whole Lotta Love, Pass The Peas, The Work, Pop Life, Extraordinary ...). Some songs sound different during every show (Xenophobia, TRC).
Listen to ONA Berlin, to Apollo, to Rotterdam ... those shows all sound different.

(By the way, the soundchecks are VERY different on
everything I have heard so far).

But I know the problem: After listening to dozens of shows of 1 tour several times each, OF COURSE things repeat and repeat and repeat.

We tend to glorify the past but there were many legendary tours which were at least not more spontaneous than the ONA tour:

PR tour ... dozens of shows and all more or less the same.
And just think of the "orgasm" trick, or the pause during "Take Me With U". This is NOT spontaneous but appears in EVERY show. Very "samey". Basically, only the Baby I'm A Star jam shows some variation.

SOTT tour ... maybe least variation of all tours.

Parade tour ... all the shows more or less the same (if you exclude the early U.S. concerts).

Lovesey tour ... variation limited to piano part.

I know, here and there he included another song on that tours, too, but in my opinion, the ONA shows were excellent and I'm very content how spontaneous they were and how much Prince did interact.
