I think the mastering of the album had a lot to do with that track being overlooked. IIRC, he laid new drums down over the old track so the drums drowned out the guitar a bit.

But you're right -- as the video shows, it is a guitar-driven song.

Forgot about "Batdance". That song had fucking everything going on. What a wonderful mess it is.

I still assert that, overall, there's a reason that a large segment of the music listening was being stunned, surprised and having their eyes opened as late as 2008 though. Our man could shred with anyone but the guitar was just one ingredient in his purple stew.

also: paisley park extended version and she's always in my hair 12", right after purple rain. so....
