4 the Tears in Your Eyes - I love the simplicity of this live recording. The stark beautiful black and white and the simple fade transitions between Prince, Wendy and Lisa. Perhaps his most elegant video and in total harmony with the performance itself.

Cinnamon Girl - artsy and with a great, daring narrative. It's been described as tasteless but I don't think it is at all, in fact it's one of the few times Prince got this sort of thing absolutely right. An underrated video in my opinion, to a very underrated song.

I really can´t just narrow it down to just two , even if his videos were not really his forté.

My favorites are, in no particular order:

1. Automatic

2. Raspberry Beret

3.Cinnamon Girl

4.Partyman

5. Kiss

6. Mountains

7. I Wish U Heaven (Wonderful song, and a wonderful video).

But I also like Empty Room, Same December and Violet the Organ Grinder a lot.

And that long, live performance video of I Would Die 4 U .

What are your Top 2 Favorite Prince Music Videos and Why?

1. Mine would be "Face Down" because, for me, it represents prince at his absolute coolest, not-giving-a-fuck. Shame it was never given a larger platform until now.

I'm from the buckle of the bible belt, and I saw "Face Down" everywhere. Hell, he performed it on the premiere episode of Chris Rock's show on HBO. That's saying something especially since he had "3 hours of love, lust, and liberty" to choose from.

It's sort of tough because the vast majority of Prince videos are just performance videos. No real concepts or anything unique. Even the videos from Purple Rain felt obligatory to the movie or the tour, nothing new. Ones before that were solely performance videos. "America" stands out as a transitionary period. He was past PR, filming and working on UTCM, but had already completed ATWIAD by the time the PR tour ended. His short hair and camel-hair overcoat lent to the pending UTCM era stuff, yet he was still wearing his lacy black pants probably worn on the PR tour. "Batdance" is certainly something different, to that point, that we'd not seen before. Movie promo tie-in yes, but with that and "Partyman", he really enveloped the Gemini character; almost an extension of Spooky Electric's inherent evil. After that, with the video albums and hour-long video specials airing in Japan or the UK, it's hard to pull one song out of those and call it a video. But, all that said...

My top two would be:
"Gold" - yes, pulled from a special but also a singular video unto itself; I chose it if not merely for the middle-aged man's face in the audience when Prince breaks into his solo.

"Willing And Able" - simply for the live arrangement of an otherwise C+ song on Diamonds and Pearls.

Honorable mentions to:

Anotherloverholenyohead

Batdance

America

Raspberry Beret (and the Hulk wig)

I Wish U Heaven (either version)

Paisley Park (either version, and at least for going outside to film something different)

Cinnamon Girl

Are there really two videos for Paisley Park? I only know the one with the kids and teenagers hanging out at a playground, and that video looks extremely cheap. I´ve looked it up on Princvault and there´s only one video for that song. Was Prince even involved in the making of it?

Probably my least favorite music video in general. lol

Probably my 3rd favourite. Love the strange, psychedelic vibe. It's happy but it has a really offbeat, more sinister undercurrent. Another video that is perfectly suited to the song.

There are two versions, different edits of the same playground scenes. Same with "I Wish U Heaven", and if memory serves, the coloring and saturation are different on the earlier edit.

There is a nice DVD-R set out there of a lot of videos. It's either that set or something else where someone has put the two videos side by side and played them in sync, so you can see what the changes are in them. Pretty cool of whoever to do that. There is also an easter egg on the 1st disk that has the band version of "I Wanna Be Your Lover".

Let me state that the earlier versions of those videos are not official releases, to my knowledge. They probably leaked or were possibly on a VHS tape or something played in the NPG stores or Glam Slam. Just a guess. Both sets of videos are not totally dissimilar. Most of the shots are the same. There are just some different edits here and there. With IWUH, there are different things floating by (eg: less) or perhaps the words are different. I seem to remember some of the coloring being really different; the apples were almost blue-green. The "Paisley Park" video is unremarkable either way, IMO.

I remember watching the big TRL premiere and him explaining the video that was shown wasn't completed. I wasn't even aware their was a finished product until I saw it on his You Tube Channel.

My favorite right now is Girls & Boys

That movie showed the potential for 'more' from Prince & the Revolution and members

I could see that video as part of the Under the Cherry Moon movie, instead of the scene that was used.
That video show a lot of options and maturity. It was top quality.

I missed that one. But I did get some pretty "rare" stuff like a huge butterfly promo thing for TMBGITW and a Neo Manifesto poster, an NPG watch, etc. and I kept their card for many many years until it just stopped being.

The same place you learnt to tell jokes and make posts worth reading (based on this comment). I didn't want to narrow it down, so listed some I liked. I guess captain obvious wasn't around to explain it so I have to do the heavy lifting. If pressed I would say America and Anotherloverholenyohead for the live videos and Partyman and when doves cry for the video style videos. Too many hits.
