This would be an utter travesty. This music has been released already! (And Stare is already on an album!)

I'd like to see HnR3/Black is the New Black tracks.

As singles nobody knows about. Stare was probably his strongest song in years so it wouldn't be a big deal if it ended up on a second release and it's brothers with Free Urself/Ruff Enuff. More recognition for them would be a good thing. People get so caught up on unreleased that they sleep on major gems.

I'm not sure who you think posthumous Prince releases are for, but these are not going to be chart smashes. Only a limited of releases are possible in any timeframe, why would you want to fill up this limited space with stuff this already out there?? Hell, I don't think Mountains got enough exposure, let's stick that on there too rolleyes

Baltimore, Rocknroll Love Affair, Screwdriver, Groovy Potential, Extralovable Reloaded were all previously released and still ended up on HNR Vol 2. Million $ Show, Fallinlove2nite and X's Face were all previously released and still found a home on HNR Vol 1.

The Org is so greedy and shortsighted some times. No fucks are given about Prince's legacy. Just gimme gimme gimme unheard material and the second you get new it's like "yeah ok whatever. gimme more"

But out of a vault with hundreds of songs, why would you want one of the first releases to contain songs we already know? When Prince released HNR2 it was his fourth album in just over a year, but that is not happening anymore. It’s not greed, it’s just that we’ve had those songs for three years. I like them, I listen to them every now and then and it would be nice if they got a bit more recognition. But even better if the recognition goes to a bunch of potentially equally good or even better songs that we haven’t heard yet.
To each their own, of course, but new stuff would be my first choice...

Rereleasing old songs will not further Prince's legacy imo.

what does any of that have to do with prince's legacy though?

yes, if prince himself wrote down tracklists or already halfway assembled the HNR3 album
and he intended to put 'ruff enough' and 'if i could get ur attention' on there, then those
songs should be on it, regardless of wether we've had them for 2+ years now since they
are an integral part of the album and of prince's vision for it.

however, if the HNR3 album was nowhere near completion and they are now just going
through the last few dozen tracks he recorded to compile an album then no, they should
not be on there because they will simply be takin up space where more unreleased music
could be.

that does not diminish or tarnish his legacy in any way shape or form since there's just a
bit more music out there instead of a small overlap in songs.

the only thing i wouldn't want to see, as regarding prince's legacy, is them just going into
the vault and having jay pick n mix whatever he wants from the last 15 years or so.

if it's just loose tracks that have no home, fine. but whose to say they aren't part of some
album prince compiled that could be released in future?

however, with tyka talking about 1 release per year, with hopefully a new release for the
next one thousand years, we won't get any of those newer albums anyway. not until we
are all well into our 90s.

so i get why people feel like we should get unknown songs and as many of them as we can
at this point because it doesn't seem like anyone is planning anything decent beyond the
september WB rehearsal release.

If it’s a digital/streaming album only (which i’m Guessing it will be), then it could feasibly be 30 tracks (or more) long and include the orphan singles as bonus tracks (just to give them a ‘home’ and it wouldn’t reduce the amount of new songs at all. Psyche.

I see absolutely no point in releasing something on Tidal that is already available on the very same platform. I want something I haven't heard before. And with 1000+ unreleased songs that shouldn't be to much to ask?

Exactly. Those songs are already on the platform and for download without subscription. They can be added to playlists by users. There is no need for them to be included again.

it's been mentioned (in a press release or somewhere else, someone help me out here) that the
initial streaming of the album, the first week, will be on tidal.

after that the digital album goes on sale, on tidal.

after that, the estate will oversee a physical release.

not sure when or where it will be streamed after the tidal exclusive period is over,
if it ends at all. can't remember right now.

prince made me buy some of his songs 4 times over since he graced us with an online presence lol

so in that respect at least, this would feel like business as usual falloff

but i'd rather not, no.

Its a good point. I don't think they have clarified. From a legal perspective, the estate could offer any of the post 96 material to Tidal (or any 3rd party).

However, my guess is they will be selective and offer material from the 'Tidal Era'.

Inevitiably, some fans will be disappointed. If you were Jay Z, going through the 2010+ material, songs like 'Ain't Gonna Miss U when U're Gone' will stand out as killer, and I don't think they will be too bothered that hardcore fans had it as a limited time download.

Personally, I'd prefer it if they released a 'project' rather than a random selection.
