Emancipation Highlights

I would never try to alter any decisions Prince made creatively (actually, maybe the Graffiti Bridge movie because yeah... ) but anyways I was curious if you were tasked with having to make Emancipation a single album with a maximum of 80 minutes which songs would you choose from all three discs to combine onto one. Here's mine; (I've ordered track each as they appeared on the album).

1. Jam of the Year

2. Somebody's Somebody

3. Courtin' Time

4. Betcha By Golly Wow!

5. White Mansion

6. Damned If I Do

7. Sex In the Summer

8. Soul Sanctuary

9. Emale

10. The Holy River

11. Joint 2 Joint

12. Slave

13. Face Down

14. My Computer

15. One of Us

16. Emancipation

Approx. Time: 1hr, 19mins

I chose these tracks because not only are they my favourites on the album, but they represent the various styles of music that Prince was making and performing during that period of time, ie. Damned If I Do sounds just like something off of Chaos and Disorder. And the likes of Emale and Face Down don't sound too dissimilar to style of the Come album. What do you guys think? Which songs would you choose? prince

Seriously? Are we gonna have an Emancipation as a single album tracklist thread every week from now on? There are just like, what? 100, 200 of those already on the board.

I quite like your tracklist - would switch out Courtin' Time and Damned If eye Do for In This Bed eye Scream and Soul Sanctuary for Saviour but, yeah, this has been done many many many times before neutral

I would actually expand it to the original 56 tracks. I prefer more prince than less!

Here a first attempt at Emancipation as a single vinyl as if his 9-track 80's albums were back:

Side 1:
The Love We Make
Emancipation
Courtin' Time
One Kiss at a Time
Face Down

Side 2:
In This Bed I Scream
Slave
Soul Sanctuary
Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife

It'd make an interesting release but it's hard to get the tracklisting right. It's fun to really mess with the flow we're used to.

Everybody wants to tell what's already been told

Everybody wants to sell what's already been sold

Enjoy your lifelong loop, then lol

(But maybe you guys could create an Emancipationasasinglealbum.org board?)

Yes, it's been done many times but what's the harm...

.

1. Jam Of The Year

2. Right Back Here In My Arms

3. Somebody's Somebody

4. Betcha By Golly Wow!

5. Dreamin' About U

6. Joint 2 Joint

7. The Holy River

8. Saviour

9. Face Down

10. My Computer

11. Courtin' Time

12. The Love We Make

.

I know I've ditched the title track.

I was thinking the same, but Rossa only joined in October 2016... So to us it might be boring, but to a newcomer, maybe not so much.

The harm is that it was already dumb the very first time + it gets dumber each time + it's been 200+ times so by now it has sunk like, reaaaaal deep.

But it's OK, James Cameron will save us all: https://www.youtube.com/w...FJZ2ZrM8Jg

I'm going to be really minimalist here folks: imagine if instead of a three CD set Emancipation was just a single song with a b-side. What two songs would you pick?
I'm going with The Holy River with The Love You Make as the b-side. Thoughts??

Not bad but drop the A-side, make the B-side the A-side and replace the B-side with an etching of Kirky J and it'd be perfect.

I still listen to these and I bought it on release day.

Courtin Time
White Mansion
Soul Sanctuary
Emale
Joint 2 Joint
the Holy River
Saviour
New World (my favorite!)
Face Down
One of Us

I even couldn't make a good mini-LP out of it, but for the sake of it, here's my 9 track single vinyl album:

Side 1

Emale
Da, Da, Da

My Computer

In This Bed I Scream

Saviour

Side 2

The Human Body

Sleep Around

One Kiss at a Time

Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife

It doesn't work at all, that flow. Too many slow songs. But there's nothing at all on this 3-disc thing that enjoyed me even remotedly.

There are arguably two answers...

1) People are having a conversation, if it's not of interest to you, walk on by. It's rather like chasing after someone telling that they should stop talking to each other.

2) Let the mods make an "Emancipation as One cd" Thread and keep it to that.

I think it's ok to tell people they're beating a dead horse, even IRL. Now it won't stop them from doing it if they want to, but at least you've said what you had to say and life goes on nod
