Great songs and Prince doing an acoustic guitar.. yes it's great..

I appreciate all of Prince's experimental departures from his signature sound. I do think this suffers some from the uneveness of the quality of the songs, especially the songwriting. In the tradition of folk music, the relatively laid back nature of the acoustic guitar allows for more attention to be placed on the actual words. Here, that is not necessarily a good thing. Still, I am glad to have it and I play it occasionally. I prefer the departure of One Night Alone much better.

if it had JUST been acoustic guitar and not all those sound effects it wouldve been alot better

I think it's alright. I would probably give it a 5 or 6 out of 10. I find it difficult to listen to the entire album from start to finish. I LOVE "One of Your Tears" and really like the songs "The Truth" and "Comeback". I also like "Animal Kingdom" (although I do drink milk and eat meat) since I appreciate its creature-conscious message.

How is "One of Your Tears" not getting more love on this thread?!

"The Other Side of the Pillow" is another fave here. Just a great song.

It should get a lot more love. It's brutally honest and dark lyrics really stand out. His singing during hte line "I am not worth the air I breathe"...damn.

It's a grower but I learned to really love it.

Welcome 2 The Dawn is as good a song as Prince ever wrote, and the arrangement is stunning, especially the vocals.

The title song, Don't Play Me, Circle of Amour, Dionne, Man in a Uniform, really just a strong album from start to finish.

I LOVE OOYT! I wonder about whom he wrote it. I have no idea. Yeah, the "better than the used condom that you sent me/baby that was wrong" is really poignant. His vocals on the track fit the lyrics perfectly. I think he uses the perfect mix of acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and keyboards.
