Haven't listened to it in a while.

Not my favorite album, but I understand and respect what he was trying to do, I find it a cohesive statement and some tracks groove like hell.

Don't think it's a GREAT album overall, I feel in quality Phase Two is stronger, however I feel Phase One has a lot more energy as an album... Strangely saying, I will have to admit the stronger songs are on Phase One though.

Hardrocklover and 1000 X's & O's have to be the best tracks in my opinion ofc.

IMO, ´June´ should have been the last song of his official discography. The last track of his last album

i view it as a bside/leftover album from the aoa sessions with a few new tracks in
there that prince felt strongly about (like hardrocklover which was a 'single').

Hmm, I think it´s completely different. AOA was more traditional R&B. HitAndRun was more electronic, experimental.

It was everything BUT experimental, save maybe in Prince's own context. It was super radio friendly and very much trying to emulate modern top 40 hits. However, it was unexpected and unusual for Prince, and very energetic. I very much appreciated that he was trying to do something he had never done. But I wouldn't call it experimental (though arguably nothing is experimental in music anymore, given that experimental genres have all established long lasting traditions )

In my opinion, it could be the worse album he ever put his name to. Not that it is completely without its merits, June and 1000 X's & O's are decent, and there's some great guitar and bass playing throughout.

Awful album. This and AOA are probably his worst two albums.

Do u think June as a track/prediction/allegory is a correlation to the same month being used in SOTT and that lyric's context? I try not to think about it myself but I can't recall this being mentioned. Maybe I'm connecting dots that don't exist.

From the first time I heard the song "june' and that lyric I thought it was definately a 'nod' to Sign O' The Times. Definately. Prince ain't stupid and I'm sure he knew what he was doing with the lyrics.

Yup. Each to their own, and everybody’s taste is different, but I can’t listen to a single track on either of those.

Same here. Prince was happy, rich and a tad boring before he passed away. But he made great music for Christian Rock radio.

Not half as boring as your post.

There is a probability of you being awfully wrong.
I'll quote Susan Moonsie: "Maybe you're too old".

His songs often had multi meanings/inspirations so it's possibly a nod to his birthday, SOTT and maybe something else as well.

.

On one of the PP rehearsals that MonoNeon shared on Mixcloud in 2015 they played June and segued into SOTT, which indicates a link.

First time I heard it, I hated it. It has really grown on me and I love it now. There is a stretch from "Fallinlove2night" (even though I like the version with Zooey Deschanel better) to "June" that I think is some of the finest material Prince had ever done (minus "Mr. Nelson" lol )

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

No it ain't.
That's the classic lame excuse for lack of culture.
Mind your manners. You seem to be in shortage of as well.

I'm so dreadfully sorry that I don't share your opinions on which Prince albums are better than others. Clearly, I'm an uncultured slob - there can't be any other possible explanation. Lack of culture and "mind your manners" indeed. Get off your high horse, you sanctimonious arsehole.

Day officially brightened. SO happy to see some folks who recognize the crappiness of AOA.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Those plus a 1000 HUGS & KISSES and I'm with you.

I always viewed this album as more of a mix tape. The way the songs flow into each other and the inclusion of remixes.

HARDROCKLOVER is a beast.
