Yes, but Tyka (his sister) said what his favorite color was and then they were looking for something to prove it -- Tyka didn't need to prove it as his sister, she would know those kinds of details more than we would.

No. Prince pretty much own the color purple. I think it's cool that he liked the color orange as I think orange is just as vibrant as purple. That man knew how to wear color.

There were very few constants in a mind like Prince's, who was constantly bursting with new ideas. It doesn't surprise me that his actual favorite color was not purple. He was probably bored with it before Purple Rain was even finished filming. Prince had lots of favorites and they were always changing. He was always changing.

Actually I remember an interview of someone very close to him saying his fav color was blue, sorry forgot who that was. Always found it interesting all that purple when it wasnt even his fav. but Blue Rain? That just sounds strange.

Prince clearly loved beautiful, vibrant colors. However, the color purple became almost as much as an identifier of Prince as his symbol is. While I get that Tyka probably just doesn't understand the caliber of super star legendary status that Prince reigned, I'm really going to need her to stop casually undoing decades of Prince-lore. OKAY!!!

I wouldn't have guessed orange, but I did assume it may not be purple it was too convenient.

Let's analyze this color orange...I'll start, though I'm no color analysis, so I'mma cheat.

It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation. To the human eye, orange is a very hot color, so it gives the sensation of heat. Nevertheless, orange is not as aggressive as red.

There's no question that he cultivated this aesthetic in the early days over the course of 2 albums, but as we know subsequent projects brought with them fresh palettes in terms of both sound and aesthetic. Personally, I've always associated the peachy, orange and amber hues of 1987 with Prince as much as purple. It's a petty question in any case.

Also, I think that this board has a tendency to be unjustiably cruel to Tyka. Regardless of what we think about her decisions and her taste, let's remember that she was family with a genuine relationship with her brother (in the end), and that she's recently lost a loved one. A bit of common decency and restraint wouldn't go amiss.

Sorry, I agree that the estate should be held to account where it matters, but it just strikes me as a little toxic. On a thread about Prince's favourite colour of all things. Who gives a *@!k.

We know from countless sources he "wanted 'purple' in the title" of Purple Rain. There were references to the color in albums prior to that record & after it as well. Whether or not it was the man's favorite color, he saw the obvious link to his name & how it was the color of royalty & he chose to ride that wave for years. Rightly so, as it effectively defined him for a generation. And he looked good.

Though he changed looks & styles frequently, from the bikini briefs era to the polka dots of Lovesexy & the red & black pinstripes of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame show, purple is the color that people are going to associate with the man no matter what his sister says. The same sister who may welll have a say in the direction of his future product (& earliest indications suggest it's not what many people want to hear.)

Proof Prince was into the color orange.
