Prince's favorite color wasn't purple... :-o

https://www.spin.com/2017...or-purple/

Does that mean the org needs to undergo a facelift?

I love that they can only find 6 examples and that confirms it as fact.

Prince wore red WAY more than that including a guitar too... shrug cool

Yes, but Tyka (his sister) said what his favorite color was and then they were looking for something to prove it -- Tyka didn't need to prove it as his sister, she would know those kinds of details more than we would.

hmmm I realized that, still, I don't believe everything I read. Even in this context shrug

ALSO, Tyka also is on about that damn hologram. Seeing as WE know he was against it. It seems like THIS could be another thing she may not quite know about her brother shrug

No. Prince pretty much own the color purple. I think it's cool that he liked the color orange as I think orange is just as vibrant as purple. That man knew how to wear color.

There were very few constants in a mind like Prince's, who was constantly bursting with new ideas. It doesn't surprise me that his actual favorite color was not purple. He was probably bored with it before Purple Rain was even finished filming. Prince had lots of favorites and they were always changing. He was always changing.

Actually I remember an interview of someone very close to him saying his fav color was blue, sorry forgot who that was. Always found it interesting all that purple when it wasnt even his fav. but Blue Rain? That just sounds strange.

disbelief Prince clearly loved beautiful, vibrant colors. However, the color purple became almost as much as an identifier of Prince as his symbol is. While I get that Tyka probably just doesn't understand the caliber of super star legendary status that Prince reigned, I'm really going to need her to stop casually undoing decades of Prince-lore. OKAY!!!

I wouldn't have guessed orange, but I did assume it may not be purple it was too convenient.

Let's analyze this color orange...I'll start, though I'm no color analysis, so I'mma cheat.

Google... ... ...
It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation. To the human eye, orange is a very hot color, so it gives the sensation of heat. Nevertheless, orange is not as aggressive as red.

she is wrong, it is blue

It makes sense as well, blue has been so prevalent in his wardrobe and music.

Get Blue

Blue Light

Violet Blue

Computer Blue

So Blue

Love On A Blue Train

Curious Blue

Blue Limousine

Blue Boy

How many songs exist with purple in the title? Or orange?

Yes. Mine is orange, as it turns out. My wife's is green. Neither one of us wears those colors particularly often, though--so the whole idea of testing Tyka's assertion by looking for Prince wearing orange seems kind of strange to me.

I think this has more to do with there being more rhymes for "blue" than there are for "orange" wink

Orange is the new purple?

Yeah, I don't think so. This is a perfect example of why the business people are meant to handle the business & the extranged relatives are meant to disappear into the background eating Doritos.

Is Tyka worried that there are a lot of orange hued things in the upcoming memorabilia auction & she's itching to move it, or something? Beyond that, favorite color or it, purple is the color associated with Prince's brand & he spent years cultivating it, before & after Purple Rain. It's associated with him to an iconic level - to the point an industry leading color space only just designated a shade in his honor. The woman is clearly Prince's closest relative: she's got the same complete lack of business savvy.

Yes, but how much of that is a result of the huge success and cultural impact of Purple Rain, and to what extent is this iconic association externally applied? There's no question that he cultivated this aesthetic in the early days over the course of 2 albums, but as we know subsequent projects brought with them fresh palettes in terms of both sound and aesthetic. Personally, I've always associated the peachy, orange and amber hues of 1987 with Prince as much as purple. It's a petty question in any case.

Also, I think that this board has a tendency to be unjustiably cruel to Tyka. Regardless of what we think about her decisions and her taste, let's remember that she was family with a genuine relationship with her brother (in the end), and that she's recently lost a loved one. A bit of common decency and restraint wouldn't go amiss.

I remember having a dream of Prince when he told me purple was associated most with him but it wasn't his most go-to color. He decorates his home, clothing and other things in other colors. He told me to choose black/white zebra print and leopard print for a house I was decorating in the dream.

The Cloud Guitar from The Sign O' The Times Era = Creamy Orange.

That whole tour color scheme seemed like a creamy-orange...

Some of the SOTT band's outfits were the same...

We know from countless sources he "wanted 'purple' in the title" of Purple Rain. There were references to the color in albums prior to that record & after it as well. Whether or not it was the man's favorite color, he saw the obvious link to his name & how it was the color of royalty & he chose to ride that wave for years. Rightly so, as it effectively defined him for a generation. And he looked good.

Though he changed looks & styles frequently, from the bikini briefs era to the polka dots of Lovesexy & the red & black pinstripes of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame show, purple is the color that people are going to associate with the man no matter what his sister says. The same sister who may welll have a say in the direction of his future product (& earliest indications suggest it's not what many people want to hear.)
