House in Order - inspiration

I've been shopping for some used records yesterday and now I'm just listening to Millie Jackson's LP "I got to try it one time" from 1974. On side 2 there's the song "Watch the one who brings you the news" and it has some very obvious similarities to "House in Order", including the line "My mama sure didn't raise no fool".

You can listen to it here:

I also came across an older version of the same song by the great, great Sweet Inspirations, who also sang backup for Aretha Franklin in the early 1970s, if i remember correctly, but the similiarities are not so obvious in this version:

Hope, this hasn't been mentioned before here. Anyway, it's a real nice listen!

Makes sense. Mavis mentionned that she wrote letters to prince for inspiration and that he wrote some of the songs based on her bio details, she said something along the lines of "Prince really told my life thru those songs", but I wouldn't be surprised if he'd looked in the direction of 60's hits to give the tracks an ald skool flavor that'd fit with Mavis' singing style. Mavis also said Time Waits For No One was the album that shown that 'Mavis has a love life, too", but The Voice clearly put her back in the role of the "melody cool" lesson telling gospel singer.

A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
