A boxset of the Piano & Microphone would be outstanding. Everyone is different, some of us more critical than others, some of us more musically inclined than others, as for P playing an instrument & singing, I like almost all of it, flaws & all.

I see what you're saying, but it has nothing to do with being "musically inclined". I think it just has to do with some fans wanting everything and others wanting a more decisive release.

I for one wouldn't want a Piano box set with 3-4 different versions of Purple Rain on it. To me that takes away from the uniqueness of any given show. Just give me the last show. Or, the first and last show if you want to bookend it.

ANY release from the estate would be welcome, I don't care of it's a cover album of Millie Vanilli classics.

I thought it was the 2nd Atlanta show and he played a bit of it at the last Paisley party.

That was only one week before he died, and that night/morning after were the plane OD incident. Then the Paisley Park party was the Saturday immediately after.

I don't think Prince would've had time to work on that last concert, logistically. Unless it was the VERY last thing he was working on the few days before he died.

At the last PP party, Prince told us he planned on releasing the 2nd show. He said they were going to clean up the audience screaming. They played from When Will We B Paid to Dark. It hadn't been cleaned up yet.

I would buy a boxset, but I really only want both PP shows on DVD. I've seen the first half of the first show and it looks and sounds great. Does anyone know if any other shows were filmed with multiple cameras?

Wouldn't most people that visit this site want every single show included? I guess one question is what would the masses buy? But, the real qustion is what would we all buy? The reality is that the masses are not going to buy a piano show by Prince. They want to dance to Kiss and Let's Go Crazy. Any Piano & Microphone Boxset needs to be responsive to the diehard fans, which means it needs to be very inclusive. Take pre-orders to cut down overhead and take our money. Have a less expensive version for the casual fans who say they are diehards.

Yes please; and depending upon the cost; that's what I would give to everyone on my Christmas list.

The estate appears to be unable to release anyting worthwhile.

The PR thing was already in the can for few years, and was driven by WB.

All types of 'talk' about multiple media deals etc but no releases materialize, no plans are announced, nothing appears to happen to even preserve the tapes.

.

So first 'they' have to demonstrate that they are able to release a multi disc box set of <insert anything here>, could be the Piano thing, in a complete and respectful way.

Thus: decent packaging, decent mastering, sparse editing.

I'd put money on there being a solo piano album in the vault, like The Truth. Old songs, or perhaps new ones.

I'm hopeful he would have made studio recordings of new the arrangements we would perform on the tour... as he recorded and listened back to everything!

.

That, with a DVD/Blu-ray of one of the live shows would be a great release.

Do you really think that a release of some practice runs (audio) plus a video disc would pay the bills for the estate?

Even the judge is concerned about the cost of them laywers types!

And I did not yet see any plans for paying the tax bill for the heritage.

So what are they doing besides wasting time?

.

Bring it on!

Box sets of everything!

The whole piano thing. (not compressed to the moon like the PR fiasco please!)

How many times must one tell them to take my money until they start acting?

(for a decent product that is)

Well, as long as we're talkin, I want ALL of his live material released and have always been willing to pay for it. Wish he'd gone the Grateful Dead/Rush style an allow us to plug in and get ahwt we ant all along. If anything good came from his death, it was the overwhelming flood of stuff I'd never seen/heard and I'll take all I can get.

Having said that, the ballads, the falsetto and the piano stuff were never much my thing and a 5 CD/DVD set of that alone I can see getting old really really fast - at least for me - as gifted a songwirter as I know he was. It also feels slightly exploitative since we all know those were his last show. Somehow knowing he was about to die cheapens it, elevates the material to a plane it doesn't deserve and reeks of a sentimental cash in and sell out.

Give me "The Ride" and more shit more in line with "The Undertaker", banging thick, layered, rich funk like "Calhoun Square" and "What's My Name", the cameos of Ron Wood and Sting, or some raw, stripped down but layered shit like he gave us with "Exodus", where he was under no label, free and was just playing, under whatever name. Show me the jam session aftershows where he just positively wailed, made it up as he went and got real with his talent, playing the drums, the bass or keyboards, fuck ups and all, and showing everyone his true genious. Somewhere between the name change and when he changed it back was where those jam sessions locked in tight.

I want to see the sort of stuff you'd show to a casual listener that would melt their fucking face.

I've seen Prince live many times and the aftershows were always where it was all at for me. I've heard/read Prince decribed as "the world's most famous and popular underground artist". I wanna see and hear what's buried - in the vault and under ground or where he was simply fucking around and working out songs. I LOVE it and positively adore watching him simply jam with no rehearsal and choreography or planning.

A P&M show as a stand alone would be OK as PART of a box set, but I, for one, would be bummed and probably bored to death to go see him and never witness a guitar or hear some drums no matter how "cool" or forthcoming he was or how many personal stories he told. My ex filed for divorce shortly before he died (we met at ONA tour 2001) and I gave some thought to going but it felt too...I dunno...old, slow, melancholy and....boring...so I passed. The next week he was dead and I got filed on.... What am I on about...? oh yeah...

The fact that the P&M shows were the last things he did shouldn't automatically elevate them to legendary status, IMO, or enshrine those shows to the top of his list when there is SO MUCH MORE energetic, versatile, funky and lively stuff they could release. It almost seems sort of opportunisitc and commercial to an extent and, along those lines, I'm already geting tired of the milking the Purple Rain stuff, as much as I love disc 2 of PR deluxe.

The recent leaks are better than anything we can get from watching him be old, frail, tired and obviously dying alone, by himself at a piano telling stories about the good old days. I don't mean to sound harsh, but something was clearly and obviously wrong or "off" with him at this stage and I don't care to see 5 DVD's of it; watching my idol rapidly degenerating in front of my very eyes, as artistic, singularly creative, accomplished and as good as he still was.

TL/DR: 5 cds/Dvds would be a tad much. He was capable of and DID so much more. P&M was just the final chapter.

The core question is:

Is WB still the one album per year company that they were while Prince was alive?

Or do they see possibilities for profit with multiple multi disc releases?

The Music Gala at Paisley Park is the one that needs to be the focus. Both shows should've already been put out on the anniversary of the show this past January. It could easily be a digital release with no issue of distribution/labels etc. These digital shows could pop up anytime and would be a welcomed introduction to the family managing the music for the estate. Scottie obviously worked on the sound and could help them put these Paisley shows out. There are endless shows at Paisley that were recorded. Prince owned those shows. It's almost too simple. The family will be bankrupt in no time if they don't move this material soon. There has to be very little money coming in at this point. I understand the issues with the studio material and ownership. But there is nothing holding this back.

A box set with the last two Atlanta shows: the first on cd and the last on dvd would do it for me.
